<p>why bother? It’s not like any college requires you to do community service before enrolling. A letter could sound like you are trying to find excuses, and that can’t be good.</p>
<p>Instead, it seems better to highlight the activities you did engage in and thrust yourself in a positive light. Besides, most college admission officers understand that international students do not have the same opportunities for ECs as do US students, so there is no need to point it out to them.</p>
