Waffles or challah French toast. Good maple syrup or butter. Cinnamon .
When my son was young, chocolate chip pancakes ruled. Haven’t made them in a decade.

I pick waffles, unless my mother is making pancakes. She was French Canadian and for us pancakes were actually the most amazing thin crepes that she always made in a cast iron pan. With real Canadian maple syrup. As kids we loved it when she made them for supper.
I like crunchy waffles. Pancakes are too soft for me. I don’t use syrup though. I spread some soft cheese or butter on my waffles.
My husband is the king of crepe making. They’re delicious, too. I like them with sugar and lemon juice, apricot preserves, or nutella.
+1 to the Dutch Baby at Original Pancake House although I’d probably go for their apple pancake which is a dutch baby style pancake with gooey cinnamon-y apples.
French Toast.
I prefer pancakes but probably only eat them about once a year. The multigrain ones at iHOP.
DH makes waffles every Saturday morning. I take his batter add blueberries and have blueberry pancakes. I don’t think his waffle recipe makes crispy enough waffles. My brother (or his wife) make a killer yeast waffle. You make it the night before and let it rise in the fridge. French toast made with challah is terrific. Unfortunately I no longer buy challah regularly as DH doesn’t eat bread. I should keep it in mind for Thanksgiving though.
And yes to real Maple Syrup - grade B if you can find it.
My mother used to make thin pancakes and then roll them around bacon and serve them for dinner. They were so good!
Pancakes. Better yet, Euro style - Swedish, with lingonberries.
I like Grade B maple syrup better than the higher grade stuff, too.
Challah French toast with batter made of eggs, milk, cinnamon and a splash of Mexican vanilla.
^ Oh man, @CD, my mouth is watering!!
We save leftover ends of Wegmans challah in the fridge til we have enough, and then make it for breakfast about once a month. It slices better if the bread isn’t completely fresh.
^^^sure.

This couple also has a low carb maple syrup recipe which I haven’t tried:

I simply added some maple extract to some butter and just put that on the waffles.
Dr. Berg is a chiropractor who studies nutrition, and while he has a lot of good information, he also sells supplements, which of course always makes me suspicious. However, his wife experiments a lot with low carb recipes, so I just follow their recipe videos. They do a really tasty cauliflower crust pizza. I don’t really follow him much beyond that.
You can also find other low carb waffle recipes on YouTube. In the YouTube search window, put “Low carb” in front of anything you’d like to make, and you will see all kinds of creative ways to make your favorite dishes with reduced carbs. I love YouTube.
The reason I prefer pancakes - no need for a waffle maker, so less clutter in the kitchen.
" Swedish pancakes from the Portage Bay restaurant in Seattle. Comes with lingonberry compote and lingonberry butter, and a trip to the fruit bar for more toppings. Best thing ever "
I agree , although I haven’t been there. Im married to a Swede so I had to learn to make them. We like them plain for the most part , but also good with blueberry preserves and whipped cream.
But if I can’t have that, I will go with the waffles
I like them both but don’t love either of them enough to make them. I was never a good pancake maker I think because I don’t make them enough. I also don’t order them in restaurants because I find a breakfast of mainly waffles or pancakes heavy on my stomach.
My ideal breakfast is usually savory. Plus I love toast and it is a treat for me to have. I would like it if I could have a small pancake on the side.
Swedish pancakes with good preserves sounds delicious. Many years ago my H and I were in Solvang Ca and we had aebleskiver danish pancake balls with fresh jam and powered sugar. They were delicious.
Edit- if anyone is gluten free Pamela’s pancake mix is very good.
Both. It depends on mood. H will often fix pancakes or waffles for his breakfast, but I get up over 2 hours later so I don’t get to enjoy them.
I like thinner pancakes with fresh blueberries if available. Good maple syrup. No whipped cream. Waffles from scratch (with beaten egg whites), butter, and maple syrup. My grandma made them for us on her little round waffle maker. Nothing to this day can compete.
I make pancakes on an electric griddle. It’s one of my few specialty appliances. It does a great job every time.
Waffles.
Both. And French Toast.Today we had pumpkin pancakes with toasted pecan maple syrup for brunch, with bacon of course. We have German house guests (musician friends of DD) every year who look forward to my “American Pancakes.” Blueberry Buttermilk. Waffles are fabulous, and I love recipes with beaten egg whites that you fold in. It’s like cooking with shampoo! And real maple syrup, the dark “Grade B” kind.
I’m not supposed to be eating any of this stuff.
