Wait Lists

I don’t think so either, but maybe if you call and find out where you are on the list…?

Well if the school does not disclose, then how does NOLA know that Deerfield has a “huge” waitlist???

I heard it said by many other people that deerfield’s waitlist is quite large this year. So it’s not only her that knows, many other people do too.

Well, not to be repetitive, but if the school does not disclose, how do any of them know that the waitlist is large???

That’s a good point.

They think the Deerfield waitlist is large because a bunch of kids on cc are on it. This leads to the IMPRESSION that it is large. Maybe it is, but only the school and a few other parties know for sure.

Now that all this is cleared up (I think…?) does anyone know the competition at Lawrenceville and Peddie? For Peddie, since they don’t rank students, what do they do? Do I need to send grade reports to Lawrenceville? What about Peddie?

Send reports of what you have been up to. Send news of academic, athletic and ec accomplishments. Stay on top of them. Do not let them forget about you. E mail or call on a weekly basis. Push the envelope as far as you can without crossing the line and becoming a nuisance. Be aggressive. Let them know you want it.

Really? No joke? How do I format all these things? And what do I email / call about?

Okay. Call the office of admissions and ask who is the adm officer responsible for your gender, grade level and boarder/day status. Ask to speak to that person and tell them that you want to attend their school badly and that it is your first choice (if it is.) Tell them what you are planning athletically, academically and otherwise for the spring and summer. Every time you accomplish something, email that person with the news of the accomplishment. If you achieve a better swimming time or honors or do some public speaking or get elected to congress or WHATEVER, LET THEM KNOW. That person is your contact in the admissions office. Do not let them forget about you. Your efforts may pay off. If you do not put out the effort you will blend in with all the others on the list.

OMG you helped me out so much, pan1956!!! Thank you so much!! One question, though: what if they don’t seem to appreciate your advances?

May I pm you?

Of course! Go right ahead :-)

Bump bump bump

BUMP BUMP BUMP

Someone say something.

Okay, I will say something that many others have said, just to promote discussion. Come April 10 there will be a lot of movement off waitlists. There are two major reasons for this. First, there is the elephant in the room, the distressed economy. Second, as schools become more selective, more applicants apply to multiple schools, so more will decline admissions and yields will therefore be lower. Good luck with Lawrenceville and Peddie boarderkid!

Thanks pan1956  I really appreciate all you’ve explained to me, I really do! I hope my Blair PM to you helped you…?

What are yields?

Yield is ratio of matriculants to accepted. Divide the number accepting offers by the number accepted and that is a yield. So if a school accepts 200 and 100 enroll, then the yield is 50%. And yes, your pm was very helpful.

Oh, alright. Thank you so much! I’m glad my PM was helpful, will he be applying to Blair?

He is in and his choice is imminent! Again, I wish the best for you!
