Waitlist admit: disadvantage for housing, etc.?

Our daughter just got off the waitlist. Should she attend, would she be at a disadvantage for housing, course selection, etc.?

Congratulations to your daughter! You should be very proud!
Yes, she should attend UVA. She won’t be at a disadvantage in terms of course selection. Orientations for first year students occur all through summer and UVA holds a # of seats for each class so that if one registers early or later, they are not handicapped.
I also don’t think that housing is a problem either. UVA is very used to juggling those that choose not to attend UVA with those off the waitlist. I have a very good acquaintance who got off the waitlist and winded up getting a really nice dorm assignment in the Old Dorms. Though I don’t have first hand experience with the housing for waitlist students, I’ve never heard that they have been treated any differently.
Again, congrats. Just curious, what was your daughter’s top choice before getting off the UVA waitlist? She’ll love it here :)

All the first year dorms are about the same and your daughter will have a place to live. Course selection for incoming first years has not yet started (correct me if I’m wrong because I have not seen any first year orientations yet). Therefore your daughter is not disadvantaged.

P.S. I don’t think that first years are allowed to choose dorms anyway.

Scroll down. There’s a post about this on the blog:

Thanks Dean J for your blog and for everyone’s comments. She has hit the accept button, and we have paid our money. Now she just has to wait to be uploaded into the database to complete the other forms. She says that this feels so right and she is thrilled to be coming to UVA.

Great! Welcome!
