My son got off the waitlist for OOS engineering. GPA 4.0, SAT 1470. He has already committed to CU Boulder and is excited to go there so he declined the offer. Loved VT when we visited. I think he may have felt differently if the offer had come sooner. Also, no merit scholarship. Glad he is happy and made a choice. Best of luck to all of those still waiting!
My daugher said some in-state at her high school got off yesteday. Donât know majors.
Do they pull off the waitlist by major or by College?
Iâm guessing itâs by major. Our daughter was pulled off the list yesterdayâŠshe applied for a management major in the school of business.
Pulls are by major, just like applications were to a specific major.
Anyone know if they ever pull from the waitlist over the weekend? Wishful thinking?
I donât know, but maybe also hoping too. Choosing a competitive major was not a good move. I hope someone responds here.
congrats and thx for the update
Our daughter (business management major) was pulled off the waiting list this week and given until May 15 to respond. So Iâm thinking there could be a flurry of waitlist pulls in mid-May. Best of luck to everyone who is still waiting!
Would love to know that too, and will there be pulls between now and May 15 or will it pause?
Anything is possible! And probably itâs likely, as they have people decline offers. Fingers crossed!
I wonder⊠will they send out waitlist offers on weekends? Their office hours are during the week (obviously), and most of the colleges Iâve heard from are only calling or emailing students to notify them during the week.
I wouldnât expect them to call on weekends.
My daughters portal (not sure of the correct term) was updated hours before we got the email.
My sons top choice was Finance at VT (we are VA residents). He was devastated when he was waitlisted. Since then he has accepted Ohio State for CS. But being instate would have been our preference due to costs. We hope he gets off the waitlist and has a second change â though now the decision process would be really really hard since he has OSU in the bag. Never understood fully what goes into these admission process where tax paying instate students have to go out of state. Kids with lower SAT scores are getting into VT school of business (i am happy for them, but just makes the criteria more confusing). Congrats to all that are getting off the waitlist and best of luck to others still waiting for a final decision.
Is a GPA of 3.94 weighted in the average for Tech?
University wide average weighted GPA is 4.03 for VT 2019 admitted students (3.98 for Business, 4.14 for Engineering and 4.05 for Sciences). I think average GPA will be higher for this year.
Based on what weighting scale?
@HokieCrazy - Based on VTâs own weighting scale. Maybe someone knows how VT calculates weighted GPA.
That information is being plugged into their IR&E data reports after admissions decisions are made. They are almost certainly taking the gpa data from accepted final transcripts and doing an average, which means they are mixing the GPAâs of students from schools that do not âweighâ AP/IB coursework with schools that weigh by .5, with schools that weigh by 1.0. I donât think thereâs any chance they are running a formula to standarize to a certain scale and then reverse-engineering back to 4.0. Thatâs why itâs not a reliable predictor of whether a student will be offered admission
