i know this year colleges are putting more and more students on wait lists because they’re worried about yield. i’m on 3 wait lists and have only heard back from 4 schools…

what do you guys think chances look like for wait listed students this year?

Thanks for bumping…S is waitlisted at his first choice colleges, Loyola MD and Providence, he was only accepted to his 2 safeties and not happy about settling for them.

Hope to get advice on what he can do to increase his chances. Anyone?

from what i hear just don’t be too annoying but send in a letter an email and make a few phone calls. i suppose some googling could help out because it’s different depending on the school.

i’ve gotten wait listed to WUSTL, Plan II at UT, & University of Chicago. Ugh

Anyway, reiterating to the schools that they are your first choice is highly recommended. I think some schools will even tell you the amount of people normally accepted from the waitlist, according to past statistics. Your son can try asking his “ranking” on the waiting list, and the factors on his application that prevented his acceptance.

[Good] Midyear grades could be sent. In the letter, you could try updating them.

Of course, it’s also about being in the balance between “showing interest” and “annoying the adcoms”.

I got waitlisted at this super competitive program in NY, but when I called them, the rep was kind of… curt with me. “There’s nothing you can do. Wait till May. Good bye. -click-” Should I [anxiously] sit back, or could I at least send a letter emphasizing that they’re my first choice, along with a few updates on recent accomplishments?

I would unless “rep” is in a decision-making role and you think you may be bordering on annoying. If the curt rep was just someone answering the phone, definitely send that letter.

Waitlisted at Notre Dame. I went to the post office today and overnighted my waitlist card back. Hopefully its at the top of the pile to get on that sucker Monday morning.

I got waitlisted at WashU, Franklin and Marshall, Trinity University and University of Richmond, pretty decent stats(2100 SAT I, 750 Math1, 800 Math2), not many ECs though (Red Cross Youth, medal from an international competition in mathematics and some sports and guitar lessons at lower grades, I’m not sure they will count). However, the main reason that obstructed me to get accepted at most places is my financial need (EFC~$4000). Hope to pluck off some of these waitlists…

I sent letters of continued interest to Dartmouth and Northwestern. I’m thinking about emailing my rep, though, I don’t really know what to say. Any ideas?
