Hello everyone. I had a question about the waitlist status for DOTL. I registered for this Friday’s DOTL (April 15) last week. I was waitlisted because it has been about 4-5 days since then, and i still have not been notified of being taken off the waitlist.
So, what are the chances that I will be able to attend DOTL on April 15? Also, it sucks that i can’t register for another date right now and at the same time am waitlisted for a different day. Otherwise, I would sign up for the Monday DOTL. At this point, I don’t really care what day; I care more about actaully having a chance to go.
Thanks
I talked to a student at DOTL who hadn’t signed up at all; they just showed up, asked around to figure out where they needed to go, and off they went. I think you could probably just show up (just don’t advertise it).
There is an error in my original post. The 4th sentence should be “It has been about 4-5 days since I was waitlisted, and I still have not been notified of being taken off the waitlist.”
@ApertureRun Thanks for your response. I’ll have to consider this option with great caution because there is a risk to showing up without being confirmed, I am assuming. I’ll call the University today.
Please do not just show up.
You are welcome to visit any other day, but we are full on the DOTL days.
Actually Dean J, your admission office phone reps said exactly the opposite. I’d appreciate clarification.
I’d be happy to share name of rep and date of call privately, even though plans were made based on phone rep’s assurances.
I just spoke to a rep who told me I can come, but also that it would be very crowded. Hmmm…
Of course it’s going to be crowded. There’s a wait list, right? What were you expecting?
DOTL is always crowded. No matter what DOTL you come to, it will be massively congested.
@doschicos
I am deciding to disregard your facetious attitude.
My remark was entirely supposed to be interpreted under the impression that we are not allowed to attend DOTL unless we confirm registration via the internet. My remark about it being very crowded was just an additional piece of information after I delivered the rather important news that apparently, we can just show up to DOTL without having registered (as the phone rep informed me).
“I am deciding to disregard your facetious attitude due to the well-educated assumption that your intelligence is below that of a dysfunctional child.” Feel better now? Good luck in college! I’m sure it will provide plenty of intellectual and emotional growth, independence, and an opportunity to develop critical thinking.
@doschicos
There you go, at least now you have fixed up that attitude. We can have a tempered discussion now.
Sorry for the delayed response…I’m on the road right now for events in Fairfax for juniors.
ApertureRun is right. DOTLs are big no matter what and the last dates have been extremely popular. We cap each event at ~1000 visitors because we know that when they are larger, the prospective student’s experience suffers and our current students find their days disrupted as well (I’m always thankful that they are so good-natured about the crowds that descend in March and April).
I think our front-office staff members are a little overwhelmed by the flood of calls from people are insisting that Friday or Monday must be the day that they visit. I can’t forbid you from coming, but I will gently suggest that another day might be better for your student.
[The Plan a Visit page](http://admission.virginia.edu/plan-a-visit) has info about attending open classes, touring, and staying overnight if you want to come to UVA on a different day.
