waitlisted with a 4.39 gpa, 2130 sat, 2200 super?!

Not being bitter…just kind of confused. In addition, I scored an 800 on SAT math, 760 sat math 2…

took the hardest math/science courses @ school

had top leadership positions for math/sci competitions and placed very high on a few of those…pres of math/sci club…had a lot of compsci stuff (compsci camp over summer, programming internship with a website, robotics)

rank 10 in my class…

female in compsci…

i had a bad feeling this might happen.

A lot of kids applied this year, and don’t flatter yourself, your stats aren’t that good.

It’s okay, I had similar stats as you and I got straight up rejected.

Honestly, I was pretty much respecting a rejection, but after seeing a whole bunch of my friends with similar stats/weaker EC’s getting in, I got pretty bitter as well :l

hopefully ill fit well at ucsd then…

@rawrjjong that’s how i feel =( glad we’re on the same page haha. i wasn’t confident that i would get in actually, but seeing that a lot of friends with similar stats got in, i started feeling like crap

***jesskidding - you have strong stats and one who is to be proud of your hard work. At the end, you will land right where you belong and thrive to be very successful!

***wildcat0 - I would caution you when you make statements on flattery especially when you prevously posted concerns of getting caught cheating and getting D/F in grades, all to which truly are not flattering.

*JessKidding - My D was waitlisted last year and made it in. Grades and scores were not as strong as yours … Best of Luck …

From 2012 Stat’s from Ms. Sun Blog
Waitlist - 4,600 waitlist offers went out; 2,900 students opted in; 482 were admitted; 288 SIR’ed.

My point was simply that the TC came off with the attitude that her stats may have been a “shoo-in” for UCLA, when it reality, they’re not.

My personal situation has nothing to do with my take on the matter.

Uhh, i feel guilty now. I’m OOS, and i got in w/ a 3.75 UC GPA, 2330 SAT. 800 SAT Math 2, 750 SAT WH, 750 U.S History. I had leadership positions here and there but nothing THAT special. However, i’m confused. Not sure if 55k/yr OOS tuition is worth it. My EFC is 24 k.

thanks for your support guys, i needed it. i’m getting teary-eyed :’)

Vikingprime: i think you should give your spot to me! lol jk jk…ucla is an incredible school and you should definitely take advantage of it. lol my EFC is a big fat zero.

Honestly no idea how I got in either… OOS with a 3.7 UW, 31 ACT, NO SAT 2’s, and fairly weak extra curriculars. They just want my $55K per year… And I’m fine with that :D

I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t get in. :(

How strong was your personal statement? Often times, that can make or break a competitive applicant’s acceptance.

And hey, you might get off the wait list, you never know. :)

Anyone think I can get off the waitlist??

In a way, I feel like I shouldn’t have gotten admitted because I had a super low SAT (1590). There were a few people at my school, that I thought deserved it more than I did, get rejected or waitlisted. I’m very grateful for this opportunity. I’m still waiting on 2 more schools. If they don’t work out, I’ll be more than happy to be a Bruin! I’m very sorry for your waitlist status. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors and you’ll succeed at any college you go. :D

Are you OOS or in-state? If you were in-state, I’m very surprised that you didn’t get in.

jesskidding: I was accepted with ****ty test scores (they were that bad) but a 4.3 and a ridiculous amount of meaningful community service work, internships, recommendations, solid personal statements, projects I have done the past few years and am ranked in the top 6% of my class. I got in for College of Letters and Sciences Undeclared Social Sciences, what did you apply for? You could try appealing, call the admissions office and get to know people. You can also transfer next year. All in all, people whose profile is as solid as yours should have a good chance to at least be wait listed. If your in the top 9% of your class (which I’m assuming you are) you should send a couple emails to the admissions office telling them this along with your strong desire to attend and what you’ve improved on since November 30. Lastly, don’t feel bad, UCLA is the most applied to school in the world this year.

Yeah I’m in state and top 1% of my class actually =\ I applied for a major in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science…I guess UCLA engineering is just difficult to get into. And I think I can only appeal if I was rejected…I got waitlisted.

I got waitlisted too, but I’m pretty glad I wasn’t just strait rejected. There’s always the school/major to factor in (I know UCLA claims to not to take majors into account, but my mom works at a major university so I know some admissions officers personally who claim that it’s more complex than that and it does impact an application if there are a lot of people apply for one major). And then there is a fair amount of luck when it comes to who is reading your application. But I’m not sweating it, just hope this doesn’t mean I’m gonna get rejected to Cal…

@jesskidding: Also, you can appeal, but only if you don’t except the waitlist offer.

jesskidding, I believe the School of Engineering is harder to get into than the College of Letters and Science. This is what I saw for Mechanical/Aerospace at UCLA (I got this info from the reports of the MAE Department for the year 2011-12)

Undergraduate Students
Enrolled / Aerospace: 198, Mechanical: 424, Total: 622
Applicants / Freshmen: Aerospace: 832, Mechanical: 1524, Total: 2356
Applicants / Transfers: Aerospace: 105, Mechanical: 367, Total: 472
Admitted / Aerospace: 131, Mechanical: 300, Total: 431
New Students Enrolled / Aerospace: 32, Mechanical: 92, Total: 124

So it seems that the admittance rate for Aero at that time was only about 14% and for ME was only about 16% while the admittance rate for the general campus was probably around 22%-24%. I imagine the rates are even lower this year because of the increase in the number of applicants.
Hang in there and good luck. I did get in with stats similar to yours.

Just got into carnegie mellon university electrical and computer engineering. Holaaaaaaaaa ucla can go die in a hole!!!11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
