Waitlistees!! when are you going to / when did you send your supplementary letter?

i got an e-mail saying my admission decision was avilable online, just like the first time. then you had to log in again and click andddd acceptance!

OMG! I just got accepted off the waitlist! I’m literally in shock right now…I was just about to pay my housing deposit to Northwestern…

I went into my e-mail to find some information that I needed to pay the Northwestern housing deposit, and then I see the e-mail from Columbia saying “Your Columbia Admissions Decision Is Now Available.” The e-mail was sent at 6:00 p.m. Wowww I just spent the last 15 minutes freaking out. It was pretty shocking to me because I was just about to do something for Northwestern…and one minute later I’m going to an entirely different university!

I hope more of you guys will get accepted off the waitlist soon! Best luck to everyone!

Btw in case it’s helpful for anyone to know, I sent a one page letter of continued interest on April 31st (so exactly two weeks ago). I didn’t send any information on new awards or achievements, and I also did not send any updated grades. All I sent was the letter expressing my continued, heartfelt interest in attending Columbia. In the letter, I also stated that I would absolutely choose to attend were I accepted off the waitlist.

Congrats, all those who’ve been accepted from the waitlist! =)

By freak chance, (the volcano in Iceland delaying my flight) I happened to be in New York for 2 days. So I wrote my letter, printed it, hand signed it and brought it to the admissions office in person. They were somewhat surprised, somewhat taken aback – the first thing they said was “we don’t talk to waitlistees”. So I thought… well, guess I’m not being accepted.

Alas, it worked ! So although I did have the advantage of being in New York to hand in my statement in person - I wanted to relay my story so that it may help people in the future. My letter was not exceptional in any way (it was frank though), but it didn’t even promise to attend if accepted, I concluded with “If I attend, I promise I will make the most of the opportunity”. The point is, I made an impression with the WAY I gave my statement, so for those of you who don’t know what you want to write - think of the HOW you get the message across, which for me was definitely more important than the message itself.

The idea to hand in the statement in person was inspired by the father of a friend of mine who told me how a friend of his got accepted from the waitlist at Georgetown when he was in highschool.

It’s worked in the past, it worked for me, if it’s your style, it can work for you!

Congrats to everyone who got in!

@Barty13: Lol, you lucky dog you. Had there been a way for me to engineer my presence in NY to hand in my letter personally, I so would have been there =) Glad it worked out for you though!! Also, I’m guessing you’re international then?

I’m confused. Is Columbia going to those notify people who won’t be taken off the waitlist, or will they hold everyone until July?

@ColumbiaURC- Will Columbia notify any CC waitlistees today (May 15th) of admission? Thank you so much for all your help!

^Sounds like there have been at least a couple on the forums here who were notified today!

There will be notifications today, according to the Admissions Office.

What time do you think they might come?

5-6 pm eastern, since that appears to have been the trend for the past two days of notifications.

@ Illation, the admissions office confirmed that they will be notifying people on a Satuday?

And, do you think that they’ll send rejections or just more acceptances? I really love Columbia, but if I’m ultimately gonna be rejected, I’d like to know soon. Just need that closure…

^yep, check illation’s previous posts- they called the admissions office and that’s what they said!

rejections are coming out today? o.o

^lol, oh no, i dont know about rejections, i just meant that illation had stated there would be acceptances sent out today, even tho it’s saturday =)

“working hard on trying to notify as many applicants as they can on May 15”

I see. I really hope that they notify us (good news or bad) today. Where have you guys submitted deposits?

Notifying applicants of acceptances. To the best of my knowledge, rejections won’t be officially sent until July. But then again, I surmised that about SEAS and I was proven wrong earlier (I didn’t realize the yield for SEAS would be so high). So yup, I’m going to keep waiting and hope for the best.

@columbia14hope: I deposited at University of Chicago.

I NEED CLOSURE TOOOOOO!!! As you can see I’ve been stalking this forum waaay too much. I just need to know that there is no hope. I’m going to Duke as of now, the complete opposite of Columbia…

I can totally relate. I’ve been following this thread for a while, so I decided to finally make an account.

Duke and Chicago are great schools. But hopefully, we’ll be hearing some GOOD NEWS today  If not, I shall accept the painful reality of moving on.

I just really hope that I know before July.

Well, the second round of acceptances will be released early June. So if we don’t hear from them today, then June will be the time to keep an eye out. UChicago’s a great school, but I’ve always loved Columbia more. Where did you deposit, columbia14hope?
