Waitlists Movement, Chances, Questions

This is for Musical Theater which is often an audition based major and not an indicator of movement on a college wide waitlist

Waitlist movement for a MT major is still pretty much the same as for a college wide waitlist because the program, like the college, has to see how many students they yield in the class before extending offers to those on the waitlist. It is not all that different. Often, this happens after May 1, the National Reply Date. Some programs may know sooner, or even later than that.

@soozievt I just wanna be sure I understand what you are saying as I respect your experience…are you saying people should deposit for a program BEFORE the deadline even while they hope a waitlist will come through? I agree when the deadline is near( 24-48hrs) away that you cant be left with NO Options… but why commit sooner than necessary if you are still waiting

we were offered a spot off the BSU PWL last week just as an FYI… have 3 more waitlists pending.

@NYYFanNowMTdad There is no rush to commit. You do have to commit to a school by their reply date (for many colleges, that is May 1). I’m not saying you need to commit before the night of April 30. Simply, you need to commit and put a deposit down even if you are waiting or hoping for a waitlist to come through. The student has to weigh the options that they have in hand and choose one. Many waitlists open up AFTER May 1. If a waitlist comes through that the student prefers over the school they committed to, they can back out from that original school (this is common and acceptable!!) and take the waitlist offer. Typically, they will lose the deposit at the original school. The original school will then go to their waitlist. There is a domino effect that can continue all summer given this process.

Anyway, I’m not suggesting to commit sooner than you have to. Simply commit by the deadline. That doesn’t rule out getting to attend a waitlist school should they make an offer later on! Some people (not you) don’t fully understand how it works and seem to think their options to go to the WL school will end if they commit to another school and that’s not true.

PS…Woo Hoo on the Ball State offer from the WL! Good luck on the other Waitlists! Just saying, some movement is likely after May 1, though CAN happen before then.

Tagging on, I know a current junior at Syracuse who wasn’t offered a spot until August. There is always time to switch gears!

S was accepted from Coastal Carolina University’s WL today (BFA MT). Slowly but surely the WLs are moving. Cheers!

we have a good friend, a female, who got an email from BOCO yesterday telling her to check her portal…she was offered a spot off the wait list, so things continue to move

Does anyone know about Emerson Wait List? How many, movement, type, etc? Thanks

We got off the Emerson WL on Thursday but the email that came was a redirect to Acting offer. Also heard of several others who were also offered Acting spots.

@runnernyc I’ve also only heard of movement for Emerson T&P. Purely conjecture on my part, but based on what I’ve seen online it sounds like T&P is a much bigger class than MT. No clue of the actual numbers.

@Sitzprobe - yes, we went to the Emerson information session - my d was WL for MT but took herself off the WL a few weeks ago - so I have no idea how it is moving. I believe T&P is a class of 60 and MT was aiming for the 18 or so.

S got off WL at Indiana this week (and accepted the offer). Just fyi, S released his BFA MT offers at Emerson and Temple. Hope this helps someone!

Congrats to your S, @PeterPan8th!

Even the CMU waitlist is moving - my D heard from them yesterday morning (D&P)!

Just a note to let folks know that NYU waitlist is moving. D was admitted to Tisch this afternoon – was given a head’s up to check portal via email this afternoon. Of course, no mention of which studio – she chose the “all studios” option. We have 72 hours to decide. The stress of this process just never ends. Continued good thoughts to everyone.

NYU Tisch yes for us too!

@tribe216 @BloomingGirl WOOHOOO!!!

Thanks @Onette! For us NYU isn’t just A school, it’s THE school. So we are beyond thrilled.

Congrats @tribe216 and @BloomingGirl !!!

@BloomingGirl - I’ve been pulling for you guys this week. THRILLED there are no more rocks!

Thanks @Sitzprobe !
