Not exactly. Increasing access to lower income students was one of the primary goals announced by Dr. Wente (a Pell grant recipient herself) when she was inaugurated almost four years ago.
“I believe innate talent and capacity to achieve are universally distributed across society… Opportunity is not. That’s why we are devoted to expanding access through new scholarships. I am pleased to announce today an ambitious goal – by the end of 2022, we will raise the funds needed to support 100 new scholarships. This will be called the For Humanity initiative. I respectfully ask all of our supporters and friends to partner with us. When we create opportunities at Wake Forest, and share the transformative power of education, we deliver the mission of Pro Humanitate to the world.”
Increasing Pell Grant recipients and adding more need-based aid has been the hallmark of her presidency and predates the changing of the USNWR criteria.
I know two great students who did not get in. They both had 3.8 unweighted gpas. (In one case, good test scores too.) Wake places emphasis on many things. (Service, for example) These students also needed FA but not so much aid that they were Pell Grant eligible.
I have a similar situation. My son applied in October round and he is very qualified. He was going to go for BC Ed but decided on WF. Two very qualified boys from his class applied in the September round and now I am nervous they will get in and he won’t.
Once you submit your ED application, you receive the the interview request form. I would like to know what you recommend putting for the last question where it says, "Is there any part of your own lived experience that you would like to share” (150 words). Is this a place to discuss something new or to summarize what I’ve already discussed in my application. I’m wondering if the interviewer will have my application. Any advice would be appreciated.
Typically they would like for you to discuss something that is not already in the app or your other essays.
My daughter interviewed in August. The interviewer did not reference her application at all. He asked about family influences in her life. And asked what she liked about her high school and what she would change about her high school. According to my daughter, it was very casual and low key.
Yes. Was a member of the admissions team. Not sure how they assign who does the interviews but it was not the regional rep for our area who did my daughter’s interview.
My daughter’s was last year too and she was admitted ED at the end of November. She did not do the video. Prompts didn’t speak to her and she had done—and liked—all the “optional” essays fwiw.
Did you just submit for an interview? We have not submitted yet. It does say they can’t offer many. I don’t think it is a negative sign at all. How quickly do you learn if you get an interview or not after submitting the request?
