H wants to buy a new car–the first new vehicle HE’s purchased since I’ve known him (over 30 years). He REALLY wants a vehicle that has a light-colored interior and many/most of the ones available seem to only come with dark/black/dark grey interiors.

He also would prefer that it be not much longer than his current vehicle, a S70 Volvo (about 186 inches exterior length), but if needed, a little longer is OK. Would love suggestions. He would probably be using it for driving around town–maybe 5000 miles/year or less. He is NOT interested in electric or hybrid vehicles.

A dark colored interior is a deal breaker (he says he can’t find things dropped or left in a dark interior car and in HI, it’s REALLY hot in these black interior vehicles).

The ones we have seen do NOT have light colored interiors per the manufacturer’s websites–only black or dark grey. Are their websites inaccurate? I am puzzled–H has been doing the research (not me), and he swears that very few makers offer light colored interiors for their new model cars.

Yea, he’s currently now focused on cleaning out the carport so he will have space to park his new baby. YEA! That 's a great present to him and me and our family!

He was under the impression (which appears to be mistaken) that hardly any manufacturers even OFFER light-colored interiors any more. From my brief look at both Honda and Toyota’s website, that seems to be an incorrect impression. Don’t think we’re interested in diesel, as it’s hard to get reliably around here and Costco doesn’t sell it at their station (which is the lowest price gas in our state). We rarely drive, so getting great mileage isn’t a big issue.

The floormats of that vehicle that you have a photo of would NOT work for him–he wants them light so he can see things if he drops them. That’s the problem–some vehicles offer light colored seats but the carpet & floormats are black or dark grey and he doesn’t like that.

How about a Volvo S60. I have one with a nice beige leather interior. I love it. If your family has been happy with volvos in the past, why not get another one?

Thanks–Mercedes is one of the few brands off the table due to the ongoing problems that my folks and other relatives have had with this brand. Personally, I just want a very reliable car and H really wants something that is light interior and light colored floor mats. I thought it would be a no brainer, but according to H, there aren’t a lot of light colored interiors these days. His car, so he gets the light interior he wants. The car I mostly drive has black floormats and dark grey seats.

Thanks for the website and tip on fitted custom after-market floor mats. That might work for H if the seats are a light color but the floormats are dark.

We have intense sun in CO, so we too disliked black interiors. They are very common though. It seems like many of the colors we favored only came with black interior. Example - 2006 Honda Odyssey had a lovely light blue exterior that seemed to come only with black interior. We prioritized interior and went with green/grey exterior to get the grey interior we wanted. It’s pleasant, and we realize that we see the interior lots more than the exterior ourselves anyway.

Our newest car is Audi A6. After three years of hemming and hawing, we ordered it (with corporate discount from my company - yay.) . It has beige-ish exterior and interior. We were told it would have dark mats, but it didn’t. That disappointed DH, who wanted dark to conceal dirt. So he ordered a set of brown mats for the front.

We have 2 Priuses, one that is tan with beige interior, one that is light gray with light gray interior, I haven’t seen any trend towards not offering light interiors.
