Warm lemon water

Grandma who lived to 103 almost…drank warm lemon water every single morning!

Article says she’s 53 (not 55).
No big deal. I’m 56 and I look just like that in my yellow bikini.

I don’t always drink lemon water, but when I do, I use only fresh-picked organic lemons from the tree in my kitchen–and I drink it cold, with lots of sugar.

While lemon in your warm water may make it more palatable, your stomach acid is so much stronger that the bit of lemon has probably zero effect . Drinking lemon water has no effect on your body chemistry.

I have been biting my tongue on the opposite side, while watching young teachers in my building with their fancy “alkaline water “ bottles promoting 7.4 pH. Guess what? The water coming out of our taps in Fort Wotrh is between 7.4 and 7.8. When we do chem experiments I have to use distilled water instead of tap water because of the natural alkalinity. When I mentioned it to one of them , her reply was “ but does it have electrolytes?” Hmmmm, pretty much by definition, but only if you understand science.

DH’s doctor told him to drink water with lemon in it to reduce his chances of developing more kidney stones. He sets an alarm for 8 am, noon, 4 pm, and 8 pm and drinks a big glass each time.

My margarita has fresh lime juice in it - will that work the same? If i warm it up maybe?

Though seriously is be willing to try it if it’s beneficial (the lemon in warm water not the warm margarita). We always have fresh lemons and limes on hand (especially in tax season - reference 1st paragraph). I love the flavor so it would not be a hardship at all.

My grandma drank hot lemon water for years as a tool for weight loss. My hair stylist drinks lemon water with cayenne when she is detoxing from caffeine. I have been taking a probiotic pill first thing in the morning before eating. I think it helps with bloating. For me the ideal no bloat is to not eat any white flour, pasta.
@jym626 I use apple cider vinegar in cooking and also in making vinaigrette. I make a simple chicken dish where I cook bone in breast with a mix of apple cider vinegar, olive oil, coconut aminos and shallots. I love the taste and smell of it but I also used to love to drink dill pickle juice when I was a kid and teenager.

I think it’s that lemon water is more palatable than plain water. Four large glasses of water is what is helping.

I do have lemon in ice water at restaurants. If I drink tea instead of coffee (heresy!!) in the morning and put lemon in it, will that work?

Excess vitamin C is getting eliminated through the kidneys… some docs recommendat taking extra C to keep UTI-causing bacteria in check.

Ive already forgotten what the benefits of ACV and/or lemon water are (other than to look that good in a bikini). Can someone give me the cliff notes explanation?

Two cups of lemon water and a healthy dose of Photoshop…

Sorry, people, but metabolism is extremely complex and the reasons that a person stores or does not store fat, where they store it, how fast their skin and bone structure age, etc, is extremely complex. There is no “Magic Cure” for aging, obtaining the body shape you want, or hair type and texture.

When a fairly ignorant celebrity says that they do X and it keeps them looking the way they do, they’re either straight out lying, ignoring half of what they do over a day, or are unable to perform basic logical inference. She may just as said that brushing her teeth is what helps her keep her figure, or peeing. After all, she does those every day as well.

Drinking lemon juice isn’t bad for you, unless its undiluted, in which case the acidity will mess with your stomach and possibly your teeth. It doesn’t really matter whether its warm or cold - in very little time it will be at your body temperature anyway.

@dragonmom while drinking four glasses of water is good for you hydration and keeping you healthy, it isn’t any more of a magic potion than anything else.

Elizabeth Hurley’s job for years was to keep in shape, so it’s likely that she spends a substantial amount of time on keeping herself in shape, unlike other people who have maybe an hour a day to work on this.

Of course, these photos are also retouched, because that’s what she does. In an interview for Jezebel in April, 2009, Hurley admitted as much, and I find it difficult to believe that she’ll stop, now that she’s 10 years older, and retouching photos is so much easier.

To quote:

Speaking of photoshop, remember the great Dove “Evolution” ad from 2006?

If you read enough on health and diet, nearly obsessively, you’ll get totally confused. Coffee, no coffee, red wine, no wine, “healthy fats,” inflammation theories, green tea, but only a certain type of processed green tea, olive oil, but only certain sorts. It’s nuts.

Plenty warn what all that acid can do to your throat. And teeth. Kidney stones are a different matter, but in their case, the point is to get in the lemon/citric in whatever way, whatever timing.

I think the whole point is never to have been fat, never to have gotten all those fat cells. Sigh. As for photoshop, @sorghum, I did photoshop my college head onto a Victoria’s Secret model’s body pic and we all get a kick out of it. As if.

Sorry, but excercise boosts metabolism. And if you want what a bodybuilder told me (the big old sumo kind,) the boost is strongest within 45 minutes of exercise (either before or after.) I don’t know if that’s true. I do know that if I’m going to cheat, it helps me. Lol.

Now I hear restaurant lemon slices aren’t always sanitary. Ugh. Are we supposed to bring our own? Do what works for you. Be “mindful,” that’s a nice balance. It means both in terms of what you watch and your own sense of what’s good and satisying about who you are.

I’m going to give it a try for a month, while keeping my diet the same. 1 cup warm water with 1/2 lemon juice first thing in the morning.

Adding another drink into the discussion- Yerba Mate. My H came home last night and one of the guys he plays volleyball with is from Uruguay and he swears that by drinking Yerba Mate throughout the day it helps him feel more energetic and helps with appetite control.
I looked up a recipe for drinking apple cider vinegar and it suggests mixing in a drop of stevia along with water. Braggs which is a seller of ACV also makes drinks that are sold in the juice section of markets that have ACV in them.

Here is my theory. Warm liquid can be consumed faster than cold. Drinking warm water is no fun. Drinking cold water takes time. Lemon makes warm water more palatable, and thus a glass of warm, flavored water can be consumed much faster than a glass of cold water, allowing busy people to hydrate. I personally don’t have 10 minutes in the morning to slowly drink a glass of ice water.

I drink a bottle of warm water (no lemon) every morning just when I get out of bed. Mostly for hydration purposes but also to keep any hunger at bay for a couple of hours.

…Yerba Mate is caffeinated, so it should give a boost.

My hubby drinks about 8-10 glasses of water “spiced” with fresh lemon juice, for hydration, not for the flat tummy (tho he would not say no to that! Lol). He wants to drink water but couldn’t drink lots of “plain” water.
A trainer told me to drink lemon water first thing in the morning as a way of “cleansing”, I may start to add lemon juice in my morning 2-glasses of wake-up water drinks.
