My two boys, one a junior in High School (New Jersey) and one a sophomore in College (Illinois), won’t wear jackets or coats. They both wear hoodies so I’m looking for the warmest hoodie I can find. The weather is already cold for my tastes. They don’t care about labels, so that’s not an issue. I just want to find the warmest hoodie (has to be zippered). Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Same issue here. I got a warm one last year at Old Navy. It has “fleece” lining, zipper. When it’s really, really cold, you can wear this one over a regular hoodie.

I got one for DS on sale at Eddie Bauer–fleece lined and very toasty! Met with rave reviews~

1958 - do you have a link for that eddie bauer hoodie.

beil1958,

What are the winters like by you?

LLbean also has very warm lined hoodies that my 19yo loves. They carry tall sizes so they’re perfect for my lanky kids with long arms.

We’re in the Northeast. DS says it’s all he needs. He has a very high preset thermostat. He’s not one to bundle up–pediatrician had to assure me that he was a smart kid and would know if he was cold! You know the drill: Elementary teachers wouldn’t let him go out for recess unless he didn’t have his parka and hat! “Mom, I’m not cold! My parka makes me too hot!”

Beil,

My son never wears a coat only a sweatshirt. I will have to check out LLBean. Thanks…

Our DS never wears a coat because he is lazy! He only wears the hoodies because he doesn’t need to go to the locker to take it off when he gets to school.

I have found the ones they sell on college websites are the best. So, if he has a college he wants to go to, go to their site and buy one there. They are incredibly thick and wear very well. They aren’t cheap, but last 2x longer than other brands I have tried.

Also, see if your hs sells hoodies through their Boosters. Ours does, and they too have that high end quality.

We live in No VA, so our weather is almost identical to NJ, and it has not been a problem for our DS. Actually, our DD who wears coats usually gets more colds than him because she lands up being too hot and that causes her to take off the coat and freeze, thus she throws the jacket back on, which creates a problem with her body heating up and cooling off too quickly.

Thanks for the link to the Eddie Bauer option. Glad to know my S is not unique - will NOT wear a coat. This looks perfect - on sale and free shipping until tomorrow. Emailed S the link to check it out; of course had to text him to read his email…

This hoodie looks really good at $55. Looking back through this thread to see who DH can thank for the Eddie Bauer charge! I didn’t even have to leave the sofa. I could NOT resist the goose down thow for $39. That is begging for someone, I just don’t know who yet. I’m a sucker for anything blackwatch plaid. Be forwarded, EB does waive the S in the S&H fees, but you still pay the $3 H. That kind of peeves me.

I’m sure S1 will like this one as much as his llbean. He is a purist and doesn’t like logos so this is just right. Thanks Beil1958.

I bought that goose down throw (red) last year because I couldn’t resist. It is the COVETED item at our house in the evening! In the winter I keep in out as a throw on the back of a loveseat and it gets snarfed all the time!!!

If you order the hoody from EB, check out the quilted ice scraper -

Only $9.99 with any purchase. D loves hers!!!

I’m liking the LL Bean hoodie for my H. He has this disgusting old hoodie that he wears to go workout and we are always begging him to wear something else. Might as well get him what he likes (the hoodie) in comfort, but a new warm one!

Hoodies are more comfortable anyway

The flannel lined llbean ran big through the body (boxy) but not long. The fleece wasn’t as boxy and cut snug like you would expect a sweatshirt at the bottom, but that may have been more the fill. S1 loves the fleece lined and wears it daily. I’m mixing it up with the EB and another color. Heaven help this child if he were ever to wear a pattern! His two younger brothers could both wear plaid, striped, polka dots, all at the same time and look awesome doing it (one with attitude, one without).

I am now wanting the red throw as well. Curse you EB! Maybe next year. (I honestly thought this would be really toasty on someone’s dorm bed next year.)

Cabelas thermal lined hooded sweatshirt is almost too warm. $35 or less on sale.

sweatshirts are warm, but they get wet- I still like my The North Face denali the best- although it is even too warm sometimes-

The flannel lined llbean is actually coated with something…not a denali, but it does the job for those that refuse to convert as of yet. It appears my coat snubbing boys are not alone in their distaste for outerwear.

S has a Columbia fleece hoodie that he really likes. He rarely (almost never) wears a coat. I see from this thread that he’s not the only one!

Another parent of boy’s who wear fleece all winter long. They don’t even have hoods! Though my older boy will wear a warm fleece hat when it gets cold.
