Warning to Parents: Zohan movie is REALLY ADULT

I was so excited to see “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan”. I love Adam Sandler, and the previews looked hillarious. It had a few funny moments at the beginning, but then it became a long, drawn out, ridiculous, tedious affair.

Most importantly, IT IS NOT, NOT, NOT FOR KIDS OR TEENS. It is rated PG-13, but I think that an “R” might not be enough to cover it. It isn’t that much is shown, but what is said and implied is so filthy that it is really over the top. And I love a good dirty joke, so I am not easily shocked.

What were you expecting going in to an Adam Sandler movie, sunshine and rainbows? IMO, if an older teen cant handle a few anatomy jokes, they’ve got bigger problems than Adam Sandler.

D and her best girlfriend (college sophs in the fall) saw it this afternoon. They said they laughed a lot but definitely don’t recommend it for parents.

So the issue isn’t teen viewing! LOL

compared to Borat??

I will say that I took my 14 year old to Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanemo Bay. Nothing he hasn’t seen before – but definitely not a mother/son movie. We were both embarrassed.

I saw my Freddy Got Fingered with my mom once. Not a good time.

Fellini and Tarkovsky are rolling in their graves again…

“D and her best girlfriend (college sophs in the fall) saw it this afternoon. They said they laughed a lot but definitely don’t recommend it for parents.”

My 14-year-old son warns me if movies are too scary or violent for me. He and my husband love killer zombies, chain saw massacres, etc.

My 12 year old brothers saw Zohan. It’s not as bad as when I convinced my dad to take me to Scary Movie when I was 10. He was not happy with me after that.

“It had a few funny moments at the beginning, but then it became a long, drawn out, ridiculous, tedious affair.”

I agree with spideygirl.
For ex: the seemingly endless scenes showing how he developed his following with the older ladies at the salon could have been done in a 10th of the time, with a wink or whatever, but seemed to drag on forever. Yech. And using the cat as a hacky-sack? Not funny, just cruel.

Our kids convinced me to bring them. Should have waited for the screenit review first. The previews on tv were a bit misleading. A little warning would have been nice.

The movie was stupid, but I don’t think it was really explicit or anything. Maybe I’m just used to worse, but I didn’t find it very offensive or over-the-top. The only reason I wouldn’t see it with my mom is because it’s so boring.

Then again, when I saw Sex & the City with my women friends, there was a mom with three kids about 8, 5 and 2 seeing it as well… Couldn’t believe it…

Parents can be so overprotective and naive at times…

It’s an Adam Sandler movie, full of lowbrow humor and childish innuendo.

If I were a parent, I would be more concerned that my child is paying 12 dollars to see this garbage.

And I agree with both of you.

I don’t think I have ever seen an Adam Sandler movie but I do like OperaMan ( we have the same taste in men  )
I have heard that the film with Don Cheadle is really good- but the Zohan movie is getting bad reviews here, even from college age.

My 78 year-old parents saw it last week. My father loved it; my mother could take it or leave it.

I don’t think there’s a lot of interest in this movie in the under-78 demographic in my family.

I sat through Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back with a friend (we were 30-something at the time). That was fine. I couldn’t believe a mom brought her teenage daughter (16-ish?) to see it. It made it uncomfortable for all of us in the theater (maybe 6-10 folks).

I remember taking our teenage daughter and son to see Zoolander. Made it about a third of the way through. That’s another of the pg-13 debacles.

My shining moment was renting Boogie Nights to watch with my in laws. Yes, H & I were in our 30’s … BUT … I thought it was about the porn industry, not ABOUT the porn industry … in other words, I didn’t know it would be so … detailed! I got up, stopped it, and told the in laws that I didn’t think I was old enough to watch it with them. H & I finished it after they went to bed. It was a good movie, but NOT one to watch with your parents … no matter how old you are! :)

A PG-13 movie not for kids or teens? In my household it’s the teens (and young 20s) who warn ME what movies (and TV shows) not to see. After watching, against their advice, an episode of South Park that involved, if I recall correctly, a menage a trois among Sadaam, Satan, and Jesus, I learned to heed their counsel.

I think the target audience of any Jay and Silent Bob movie would be the 16-ish crowd, not the 30-somethings.
