My daughter just found out she’s a Johnson Scholarship finalist! I’m trying to see if any other parents plan to travel to the area with their child. She doesn’t want to fly by herself for the first time and try to figure out connecting flights for this. I figured I’d go with her to make sure she gets there safely then make a vacation out of it at an Airbnb.
She’s super excited! This is her top choice!
If budget isn’t an issue, I would recommend The Georges. And if budget is a factor, there are a lot of other good lodging options too!
We stayed there and loved it!
My daughter was chosen for the scholarship. She’s wanting to get to know other students and I’ve had trouble finding a group on Facebook. She’s really nervous about going that far to college but this opportunity is life altering!
Congratulations!!! ![]()

W&L is a very friendly place, she will find friends, I can pretty much guarantee it! Paging @DramaMama2021 , whose daughter just graduated ~
Congratulations! My daughter’s year (2021) the kids connected through Instagram (Facebook is for the parents’ generation lol and there is an active parent page on FB). The Johnson/Admission office should be able to help with that connection or the students she met over the interview weekend.
My daughter met her freshman roomie that way, who ended up her roommate and BFF all 4 years at W&L. I hope your daughter enjoys her time in Lexington as much. It is such a friendly campus and supportive surrounding community.
ETA: Feel free to DM me if you have other questions.
Thanks, @cinnamon1212 ! We cross-posted.
Hope you all are well.
Per an IG post today, regular decisions will be released on Friday 3/20 at 8pm EST.
Of the colleges we visited, this is D26’s number 1. There are a few we didn’t visit, that if somehow she gets in we will have to visit, but we will cross that bridge when we get there.
I am a law alum! It’s such a pretty campus in a very tight-knit community. Good luck to your D!! ![]()
Yes, we loved the campus! We know a couple alums through our volleyball club and they all speak highly of W&L. D26 is looking to major in history and go into law, so we are looking into being able to decide soon!
Well, D26 was waitlisted at W&L and this was the one she was really hoping for. I think her letter said 30 or 40 typically get in via waitlist, but I may be mixing up WL letters since she got 4 within 12 hours. Anyone know how many students are typically on the WL? We are going to plan as if she isn’t going to be accepted, but in the back of my mind I’m just wondering if there is a realistic chance. Thanks!
I’d point you to our CDS, W&L has a lot of our data stored in our Common Data Sets. Looking at the 2025-2026 CDS, we waitlisted ~1200, of which 600 accepted a spot. I will note that the class of 2029 is overenrolled so we only accepted 2 people off the WL last year.
The year before, my year (class of 2028), we accepted 67 people off a waitlist acceptance pool of 735. My year was more selective than years past, most likely to balance out the large class of 2027.
Your chances of your D26 getting off the WL depend on how well they’ve gauged the yield for admissions this year. Over the last couple of years, we’ve swung between accidentally enrolling more than expected to intentionally underenrolling to “balance” that out. I think this year we’re going to accept more people off the wait list as they probably accepted less to try and balance out the massive class of 2029.
Thanks for pointing me in that direction! Looking at the numbers for the last 4 years, offering waitlist spots for 2 to 3 times the number that is planned to be enrolled is significantly higher than I would have thought, even when only half of those accept a spot on the waitlist. Ultimately, over the last 4 years, less than 3% of those who accept the waitlist spot get in. Good to have an idea regardless!
