@user_430291 it would not make send to defer EDII since by now they should have the number of all applicants, and no need to defer EDII to attract more applicants as ED1. So likely outcome will be accepted, rejected or waitlisted
My daughterâs friend applied RD and had an interview on Friday, but my kiddo applied ED 2 with no interview. Does this mean her friend has a better chance in getting in? I swear the stress of not knowing an answer yet is worse for me than her.
I wouldnât read into that at all. The interviews are based on availability of alumni in the area who are willing/able to interview. ED2 is a much stronger signal that your child wants to go to WashU. Not having an alumni interview will in no way impact her application. Good luck!
@mommatiger Do not read into it! I know that in my area we were overwhelmed with requests and sometimes there just arenât even people to do them. As kanfly wrote, ED2 is a strong signal of interest. Did your daughter visit the campus?
We visited the campus twice. Her friend was invited to the school for their Regular Decision Interview day last Friday. My daughter has higher test scores than her friend, but is lower in class rank. We were told they will only admit one person from each geographical area which is why we are a little more anxious now. It will all work out in the end, and they will both end up where they are meant to be.
All admissions offices try to create a âbalancedâ class based on various parameters they consider important including geography. However, I donât think WashU has a hard rule about how many per region. My sonâs graduating class only had 140 students and 5 of them from that class went to WashU. (We are in Silicon Valley). WashU tends to value good stats - and SAT might be seen as more objective than GPA. As long as the GPA is in the higher range the actual class rank wonât be as important. But they also consider many other factors in their holistic review. I know what your are going through - I hope the best for you and your daughter.
on topic, i was wondering if itâs too late to send in an update? i recently won a national award and have been expanding my clubs. not sure if itâs worth reaching out about though?
@soliloquie we send update last Friday and got response this Monday with âupdates added to the fileâ. Not sure if they are still considering or it is done deal.
@orrrangeslapped Their decisions normally come out at 5:30 EST so Iâm guessing itâs a no for tonight. Still a chance for tomorrow, but it will most likely be next week.
Checked on the website and it says that ED2 decision will be released by Feb. 14th, and that the Candidate Reply Date is Feb. 28th. What exactly is a candidate reply date? Since itâs binding, is there really even a choice to say no? And if you say no, you wonât be able to attend at all right?
@CollegeJS2020 they have the right to share the data with other schools and no school like to admit any students dishonest with something. So call now to switch to RD if you are not ready to commit.
They will give you your financial aid amount at the time of ED1/ED2 acceptance. It is possible that the applicant and their family do not consider it to be enough. You can then contact the financial aid office and ask them to reconsider and they will - but they might determine that they have met the demonstrated need already. The merit scholarships are not awarded until later.
ED1/ED2 are binding, and they could notify your high school counselor and other universities of a breach. As was suggested if the reason is financial then perhaps the other universities will not consider the applicant dishonest. However, in the ED terms that the candidate (and parent/guardian) commit to I recall language about the commitment and financial aid. Also, the admissions officers make it clear that if financial aid or merit aid is critical to the decision to attend, then applying RD is better since ED (1 and 2) are binding and only the financial aid will be known and not the merit scholarship.
I think it will. Last year ED2 came out on Wednesday 2/13/19 around 4:35 PM Central Time (5:35 Eastern Time). It will likely come out before 5CT/6ET. However, it is possible that it will come out Thursday or Friday, as the official deadline (as stated on the WashU website) is Friday the 14th. If you really want to know for sure, you might be able to find out if you call WashU and speak with an admissions officer today or tomorrow. Good Luck.
