WashU 2024 ED 2

Called Ad.office, they confirmed the ED2 will be released late afternoon today before their office close. Based on ED1 timing and CC reactions, it supposed to be around 4:30PM CST. today.

I applied ED1 for the class of 2024 and the results came out for me at 4:42 pm so I would suggest to begin looking for an email that your portal has been updated starting after 4:30 pm.

4:30 CST you mean?

probably 4:30 CST, which means u should be safe checking around 5:00-5:30pm EST

a reminder for myself as i sit anxiously @ my public library lmao: u will be ok no matter what happens. washu may be ur ā€œdream school,ā€ but it is not the defining factor for ur future. u will be happy wherever u go!!! enjoy break next week. don’t get caught up on the little things that u can’t change. be proud of other people. most importantly, be proud of urself.

ur friend just called u and said she got into nyu!!! things are ok. and things will be ok.

That’s what I keep telling my daughter. You will end up where you are supposed to!

Our family is on pins and needles! We are waiting to hear from our niece. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck! I’m nervous for you guys. I remember how nerve-wracking it was back in December

Got Deferred. No surprise since I am an international student asking for full ride.

My niece was chosen! She was a questbridge scholar that didn’t match first round. This is life changing for her!

My Zoe got into the PNP program!!

@mommatiger Congratulations!!!

My daughter got in ED2. It is bittersweet. We applied for aid, and did not even get little, we got NONE! Does anyone have any advice other than, too bad - tell them we can’t afford (of course that will allow withdrawal, which we do not want to do)? She has gotten into EA colleges and received aid and we clearly show in our CSS Profile that we need aid. We genuinely can not afford no aid, so this really surprised me. Any thoughts or advice? We are contacting SFS Rep and I hope they work with us, as this is definitely a great 2-way fit for the school and student. I was so happy seeing the acceptance because this is such a perfect fit, and then feeling so sad and upset upon seeing the award :frowning:

Yes, you can/should contact the Financial Aid office and explain your situation - they will be responsive. However, it could be after reassessing the financial information you provided that they come to same conclusion that they have met the demonstrated need. Good Luck!

Does ED allow for withdrawal based on financial aid? I was unaware that was the case.

Did you run the NPC on their website prior to applying?

Of course! In the CSS Profile you state how much you can realistically afford. One of the only legitimate reasons for a withdrawal would be based on affordability. This is why I am so surprised given what we effectively told the school (via the CSS Profile). It is actually worse than being denied as my daughter (and I) had gotten so excited, to being so dissapointed (and me angry to be honest).

@lakers2020 - Congratulations to your daughter and hopefully situation will resolve favorably so she does not have to withdraw.

It is possible that financial aid info may be little delayed

Not sure if this is your case but the cost of living in some places (ie Bay Area) is high so the relatively higher incomes in the Bay Area do go that far and while most people who own a home in the Bay Area have high relative equity (compared to other regions) they still won’t want to mortgage it further to pay for college. However, many universities do not take that into account since relative to other families the income and assets seem high.

As I understand it, if the student is admitted the university is committing to meet the demonstrated need - but their assessment of the demonstrated need can be different from your assessment. Regardless, the best thing to do is to contact the financial aid director. And if you have any updated financial information that can help.

They would not want you to back out. And while it is not a guarantee that there will be no consequences for doing so, I think it is an accepted reason to explain to other universities that might learn of this cancelation that cost and financial aid were the reason. But hopefully it does not come to that - WashU really is a great university. I hope the best for you all.

@lachhi It is not even about ā€˜backing out’. You can’t pay for something if you don’t have the money. We can’t even afford to borrow that amount. It is what it is, but the school knew that with the documentation we submitted. I hope they work with us, it’s either going to be: 1. they work with us to make it more affordable, or 2. they let us back out. There IS no other option lol.
