WashU Class of 2013

Why isn’t there a WashU class of 2013 subforum in the WashU forum like the other schools?

Also, who here has submitted their deposit?
what meal plan did you pick and what was your #1 dorm choice? Did you also pay the $30 to use the fitness center?

I JUST sent the acceptance form and housing sheet today with my waiver! I’m pretty pumped
I got the cheapest meal plan because that’s what everyone says to do and my first choice dorm was modern double. I definitely paid the 30 dollars, can’t wait!

As acolombianp said, get the cheapest meal plan. Seriously.

I have no idea why there’s not a subforum for the class of 2013 - I’ve actually wondered that myself.

I’m going to submit my housing form on Monday - first choice a traditional double. And yes I will pay the $30 bucks for the fitness center. I was thinking the meals plus plan…just can’t decide whether I want to be on a substance free floor or not.

Why does everyone recommend getting the cheapest meal plan?

What if you run out of points?

everyone recommends that because if you run out of points, you can just buy more, and they’re cheaper than buying them through the plans.

Sweet. That seems really odd, but thanks a lot for the tip guys :). I’ll change my meal plan before sending in the form.

my d sent her paperwork in a couple of weeks ago. they waived her housing and enrollment fee when she turned in the waiver request. The only thing she needs now is her final high school transcript.

That’s awesome to hear akward313, I had been wondering about the waiver request. I can’t wait to be completely enrolled in school :]

I also submitted my deposit, and WashU confirmed it yayyyy!!!
Now to finish up the last 6 weeks of school…grrr. At least I have CELEBRATIONS!!! to mix things up a bit!

I got the cheapest meal plan…mainly because I didn’t like the way Meals Plus sounded…I would feel fat having that plan! And don’t get me started on the Bountiful Plan

I ranked my dorm preferences as Modern Double->Modern Triple->Traditional Double->Traditional Triple->Modern Single->Tradtitional Single…I’m guessing I’ll probably end up with the Modern Double. Hopefully in Park so I’ll have lots of suitemates!!!

And yeah, I did pay for the fitness center, because I know I’m too lazy to trek up to the main campus…even to exercise lol.

Wait… where did people get this fee waiver request form? I didn’t see it anywhere…
well, I guess it doesn’t matter now. I already sent in my deposit, haha.

As someone who got one, I can say that the Meals Plus plan is … well basically it’s delicious. I’m definitely bumping down to a much smaller meal plan next year though, because there is really no point in buying points beforehand when you can add them on later (sometimes at a discount, etc.). Most freshmen seem to use very little of their plan, although there are some surprising exceptions.

sounds like i’m choosing a lot of the same options. I think I’ll go with Modern double -> modern triple/ old double -> old triple-> singles

I’ll definitely use the fitness option especially since i’m hoping to work out a lot over summer.

Does anyone think it’s a good or bad idea to submit all this AFTER i attend multicultural weekend? I was thinking of submitting after just to be 100% sure i want to go there, but maybe waiting an extra week on the housing forms isn’t such a good idea.

and we want our subforum!!

As long as you get everything in before the deadline, you’re not hurting yourself at all… Everything (if it’s turned in on time) is randomized as far as who gets first choice of housing, so no worries there.

I can’t decide between a modern double and traditional double… I’m leaning towards the moderns because they were so nice when I saw them… the traditionals were… well they were normal college dorms, but they are probably more “community” oriented. Also as someone who doesn’t drink or do drugs, but doesn’t mind if others drink responsibly (and I could do without smoking in my room…), would I be okay not choosing the substance-free dorm? I don’t want to isolate myself, but at the same time I’d rather not be part of a 24 hour party. Thanks.

mike- there are plenty of people who don’t drink/do drugs on the ‘normal’ floors. So long as you don’t have a problem with others doing so, you have nothing to worry about. Also, non sub-free floors definitely don’t party 24-7.

As for the smoking in your room, that’s expressly forbidden. The ra’s may be chill about the whole drinking in your room thing, but the majority of ra’s I know are completely against smoking in rooms. The last thing anyone wants is to deal with either the smell or the possibility of the alarm going off.
Note- I do know people who have smoked in their rooms, but it’s something their roommate knew about and couldn’t care less about. So long as you outline ground rules with your roommate before hand, it generally isn’t a problem.

As for modern vs. traditional, you’ll be happy with whatever you end up in. I love modern dorms to death, but I don’t know anyone unhappy in a traditional.

You basically described exactly how I feel. I’ve been wondering for a while whether or not I should choose a sub-free floor, but like you said I don’t want to isolate myself. I think I’m just going to go with the “normal” floors.

Yeah, there’s always the chance that your roommate will be an exception, but that risk is a given for college, and (as Johnson181 said) normal floors should be fairly, err, normal. And smoking in the room should never happen, as far as I know. You’ll should be just fine either way, so pick whatever suits you. :)

Thanks everyone, I’ll probably pick a normal modern double. And from what I hear, I should pick the traditional double ahead of any triples… Also, it says freshmen can’t pick the single moderns, so why do they still have us rank it?

It might be for special medical cases… I’m not really sure though.
