WashU or UVA

any advice?

*Been accepted to Olin WashU and to UVA as Echols Scholar… would like to go into business

both are good schools. I know people not going to UVA for business since you are not guaranteed into the program as freshmen. Not sure how WashU is… If you are confident in grades and in-state then UVA

I think you need to provide some more info for people to provide useful advice. What is important to you? Is cost a factor? Overall, the two universities have similar academic reputations.

Most private universities would offer smaller first year lecture classes than UVa on the average, however, some private universities still have some large first year classes.

Also, many people think about alumni networks for getting internships and their first job interviews. If you want to work on the east coast, UVa would be more helpful in that regard, vs. Wash U. might be more helpful in the midwest.

As noted above, one reason why some people do not choose UVa is because they really really want to major in business, but are not sure of their chances of being accepted into UVa’s commerce school. Many other universities offer direct admission to their business schools. You still can take a few business courses if you are not accepted to the Comm School, and can major in economics. The Comm School also offers a Masters Program, which may be used by some UVa grads who didn’t make into the school as an undergrad. Unlike Darden’s MBA program, I believe you can be accepted into the Comm School’s Masters Program right after finishing your bachelors.

There are stats on the Comm School’s website about the competitiveness of admissions. They also look at your involvement in leadership activities.
