Watch "Glee"

Which is the version that Mark Greene died to.

Indeed, missypie, and, appropriately, in Hawaii.

Oh my, now I remember that too. I was a devoted ER fan. Mark Greene’s death was so sad but the time spent in Hawaii with his D was so sweet.

Loved the entire Glee finale…contrived or whatever…it was entertaining and there’s nothing else quite like it on TV now. It will be a long summer of re-runs.

Speaking of ER …Juliana Margulies new show The Good Wife is really excellent.
Last night they started the reruns beginning with the first show that was run back in Jan.
If you didn’t start watching then, it would be a good summer series to watch. Tues. at 10:00 (eastern time) on CBS.

thanks Packmom; summer bedtime is definitely a “fit” for that; I loved the first show and was planning on buying season 1; you saved me $$!!

Mark Greene’s TV death occured about two weeks after my friend’s husband died in a car accident, so it about did me in…one of those things that is sort of burned in my brain.

The finale was typical Glee. Loved the songs especially To Sir With Love. The birth of the baby to Bohemian Rapsody was perfect. It was very contrived that Idina adoped Quinn’s baby, but they needed to have the baby go somewhere as theat plot line was finished.

I have that song on my iPod and still tear up sometimes when I hear it and think of the ER episode. Anyone else remember Come Sail Away… when he was in the basement working on a crib mobile for the new baby?

D2 bought herself a ukelele a few years ago and Over the Rainbow was one of the first songs she taught herself because of the popularity of that arrangement.

The Television Without Pity website has a slide show of the Best and Worst musical moments from Glee. They have *Safety Dance *and *Single Ladies *on the worst list! Those are my favorites!

That version of “Over the Rainbow” was also used on the (total tearjerker) film “Life as a House”.

missypie, thanks for reminding me about television without pity.

The quality of their writers varies. The lady who blogged about *Dancing with the Stars *was hystrical.

Thanks for cluing me in about the [unspellable Hawaiian] version of Over the Rainbow. I’m too trusting!

Re: The Good Wife. The fact that The Good Wife and Parenthood are on at the same time led my wife finally to figure out how to use hulu. (We don’t have cable/TiVo.) Both of them are excellent shows – and they pit the two male leads from Sports Night, one of the best shows ever, against each other (Josh Charles and Peter Krause played a SportsCenter-like anchor team), as well as Lorelei Gilmore vs. Rory’s last boyfriend.

Speaking of real life and Glee, here’s an interesting discussion about how the characters on Glee blithely put on performances that in real life would result in massive copyright lawsuits. [Glee vs copyright: do as I say, not as I do - Boing Boing](<a href=“Glee vs copyright: do as I say, not as I do | Boing Boing”>Glee vs copyright: do as I say, not as I do | Boing Boing)

The RIAA and its cronies drive me insane…they know that the music industry as they know it is dying and they’re doing anything they can to save it. It’s to the point now where artists are encouraging fans to go download music from underground sites instead of paying $1.29 per song. I don’t know anyone anymore who buys every single song or CD they listen to.

But I just bought the Glee vol. 3 CD! The Deluxe version is more than 14 songs for $9.99, so it’s cheaper on CD…

My favorite number of the year was My Life Would Suck Without You.

I thought the finale had a number of brilliant ideas. Having an entire Bohemian Rhapsody cross cut into Quinn was brilliant because it not only eliminated the need for dialogue but showed the “real” quality of life versus the ridiculously overstaged and soulless number. The honest statements by the kids as they said goodbye to Will was the kind of reality the show can do well, with Finn’s stumbling through not having a father hitting the right tone. We then had them sing - which in the musical lexicon means emotion has exceeded the capacity of speech - and act the song out in little moments such as Quinn touching Mercedes and Artie and Tina looking at each and Brittany and Santana looping little fingers together - which in the musical lexicon is where movement has exceeded the capacity of song to convey emotion.

These guys really, really understand how to put this stuff together. The Journey medley was great and my daughter’s comment was that she thought this was the part they thought of first. I don’t know but it’s great that there’s a show that reaches to hit emotions with such an understanding of the ways that entertainment works to affect us.

As I’ve said before, they also have a keen understanding of the absurdity necessary to pull musical off in a post-ironic world. Having Olivia Newton-John say that brunettes don’t belong in show business as you can see Sue start to identify with the outsiders New Directions represents was brilliant because you couldn’t play that straight like in the 1950’s. It had to have an edge of being unbelievable so you could see the believable parts.

BTW, I’ve been a Big Iz fan for years. I miss him. I highly recommend his record Facing Future. It of course contains his great version of Rainbow / Wonderful World but there’s so much more.

I’d been saying last week that it would be wonderful to see Glee cover “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “American Pie”. One down, one to go.

Favorite number of the year? Not sure, but every time that I watch the offensive line dance to Beyonce my heart gets six sizes bigger.

^^^^
My favorite, too :-)

It wasn’t the typical Glee song at all – were the kids even singing or was it the Beyonce version – but I just loved those football players in full gear swaying their hips.

I also really like the episodes with Kristen Chenowith and her duets with Will. Loved “Alone”. I’ll have to give some thought to my favorite song done just by the kids.

It’s very tame compared to some of their other numbers, but “True Colors” is a strong contender for my favorite group song.

My absolute favorite, though…I’d have to say either “Keep Holding On” (great song, and it really showed how the club is so supportive) or “Jump” (awesomely fun).

Here’s a good link to the 10 best musical numbers on Glee from The Daily Beast:

I had never seen the “Rehab” number or Mercedes’ version of “Bust Your Windows” - loved them both!

Ok I guess I am now a Gleek- watched the past episodes ( not really in order) on hulu- but I blame Glee for my new earworm

Must it really be * Ice, Ice Baby?*

BTW, I’ve been a Big Iz fan for years. I miss him. I highly recommend his record Facing Future. It of course contains his great version of Rainbow / Wonderful World but there’s so much more.

Have Facing Future- great- wish I could have heard EV version of Hawaii’78 live.
But I have the signed poster
