love the music. HATE the show’s storylines.

Never saw Glee before last night, never will again. Unbelievably dumb, not that funny and I’m not a big fan of great music ruined by glee clubs.

The D’s and I loved it, thought it was the best show in awhile. One of my favorite moments from the first season was when the football team did a routine on the field to “put a ring on it”. This was even better–not just that the players were dancing, but they were zombies! Hilarious!

The spouse and I saw “Biutiful” over the weekend, after which I needed some suspended reality.

The Chevy commercial sung during the show was disgusting…Then after the old Chevy song was sung…the show paused for commercials including another Chevy ad.

I ownder how much GM paid for the Glee cast to sing the Checy commercial…

dstark,

Why do you say it was ‘disgusting’? Did you mean the number itself? Or the fact that the characters on the show made the commercial?

Let’s clear one thing up - no one watches Glee because it’s physically realistic. Sue’s violent tantrums, the Glee club not having the money for a bus but being able to regularly do such ridiculous things as the Umbrella duet or just having a full band behind them…all clearly not realistic.

What is realistic, and really wonderful, about Glee -
- the way that many (not all, but many) of the emotions and relationships of high school are handled (from feeling like a loser to being bullied to figuring out your growing relationship with your parents to romantic relationships), especially, imo, in Kurt’s life, and
- many of the musical numbers. Some of the actors are really, really great singers, some of them are really great dancers, and all of them are very good performers. I’ve liked most of their mash-ups and many of their songs in general, and it’s just fun to watch.

I didn’t find the Chevy commercial “disgusting,” but it left a bad taste in my mouth for reasons that are more intuitive than ones I can fully articulate yet. Product placement is happening all the time on TV and movies, and the wall between advertising and content has more holes than Swiss cheese – but this somehow took that to another level. Was it a commercial? Was it part of the show? I’ll bet some viewers were confused.

I suspend total disbelief while watching this show, and I enjoyed this episode. I am intrigued by the story line with Karofsky (the in-the-closet gay football player). I watched his face a lot last night, as he was trying to figure out his feelings and how to react to events. He is a rare figure in the media – a teenage athlete who is discovering his sexual preference and fighting it tooth and nail. I am really curious about where they are going to take his storyline.

And I adore Blaine and Kurt. I squee when they come on the screen.

(On the suspend disbelief part – if you even for one moment wanted to figure out how they managed to put on all that makeup and do a halftime show in the amount of time devoted to half-time – just don’t go there.)

The D’s and I loved it, thought it was the best show in awhile. One of my favorite moments from the first season was when the football team did a routine on the field to “put a ring on it”. This was even better–not just that the players were dancing, but they were zombies!

I just saw the episode on Hulu.
I agree, I think it is much better than the episodes of Shue dancing w the kids & the TMI sexuality/inappropriate behavior by Sue. ( not the the cannons were appropriate but that is better than suggesting that another teacher is sexually abusing students)

I think zombies are over, but the music was fun if not fantastic & I like the storyline of bringing the football team harassers together with the glee club, as well as having the women join the football team.

( I also am watching it on my laptop so it is too small to see what kind of guitar Mark Saling was playing in his duet with Lea Michele? It is beautiful, anyone know?)

I also appreciated to have a show where it wasn’t all about Rachel-" all about me", however I think they go way too far in making Britney * dumb*-

& which song was used in the Chevy commercial? I only watch shows on my laptop, so the ads are few & short.

& did they do Katie Courics makeup like that on purpose? She looked awful.

I don’t watch at all for your #1…especially Kurt who is sometimes funny, but mostly whiny and annoying. I find most of the characters to be too fake and sterotypical.

But I totally agree on your #2! I love the dancing.

I also love the comedy (ie Brittany). She seems so much smarter when she’s dancing.

The theme song that Dinah Shore used to sing for them: "See the USA, in your Chevrolet/ America is asking you to call . . . "

"Why do you say it was ‘disgusting’? Did you mean the number itself? Or the fact that the characters on the show made the commercial? "

I did not like the characters singing an ad during the show…

The number was fine…

I did not like the characters singing an ad during the show…

I still don’t know which song it was-
They sang
Bills Bills Bills
She’s not there
I need you now
Heads will roll/Thriller
California Gurls

OIC the Chevrolet commercial must have been a special ad for the Superbowl slot, cause that wasn’t in the version I saw on Hulu.

The whole idea is to confuse the folks who have recorded the show and are watching on their DVRs. They fast forward through the commercials…but when they see the characters from their show, they think it’s the show, so they stop to watch and oops, it’s a commercial.

It’s a Washburn…I don’t know which model, but one of my best friends from HS plays a Washburn and freaks out every time she sees that guitar because she has one just like it.

I thought last night’s episode was pretty good. I agree that it’s a show that you can’t take seriously, except for the emotions and relationships. My favorite thing about Glee is that it mirrors very realistically the experience of being in choir with people (which I’ve said before); you form deep relationships with those people. They become another family.

As a choir person, I’ve pondered the reason for the intimacy, even with people you don’t necessarily like. My theory is that you all breathe at the same time, and something that basic and vital forms bonds among the choir members.

^Very possible…I’ve always thought it was more that you spend so much time with these people (between rehearsals, traveling for concerts, and actual performances), there’s no point in wasting energy on feuds/conflict.

Calling Glee “dumb” begs the question of the kind of humor it is going for. It is very broad satire. There is very little they will not make fun of, including themselves. Not supposed to be rooted in reality in any way, I don’t think, except for the feelings people get while in high school (which tend to be exaggerated and unrealistic, also, yes?)
Love the energy of the show. Nothing else like it on TV, especially since Ugly Betty was cancelled.

dbwes I have just discovered Ugly Betty, funny funny funny.

OMG…I LOVE ARTIE!!! great rendition of PYT

I love the Warblers. It’s all so over the top but I love it.
