We are the terrible, horrible, no good..

I misread the original post, as in they insisted that your son and his friends would perform a satanic ritual …

Perhaps he could have added a few sentences about how thou shalt not steal, and thou shalt not covet anything of thy neighbors.

There are scriptures about breaking into houses, raising your kids, being peaceful with your neighbors, etc. that could be used. I don’t know whether or not these neighbors would care. One would expect that someone knowledgeable about Christianity would know a little about Judaism and that doesn’t seem to be the case here. You could put a commandment on a sign and they might not recognize it.

Another commandment your DH could have shared with the lovely neighbors? “Mind your own beeswax” :)

boysx3–and they wonder why their kids are in deep do-do with the law…how about stepping up and taking responsibility for their actions and stop blaming everyone else for their lot in life–man I am so sick of people blaming everyone else for their problems. Make sure your dog poops in their yard next time and don’t clean it up (ok, kidding):D.

I am surprised that they believe that playing cards is evil, yet they allow the kids to have a game system (and did they really think someone just gave it to the kids?!). Even if they didn’t know that it was stolen, I doubt they are playing wholesome games. I would imagine the games involve a lot of shooting, killing and other bad activities.

Shooting and killing are OK, gambling is bad.

Wow, what a story. Good thing that they got caught. Keep us updated, please. They will be gone soon.

Winter approaches. I would not acknowledge these people at all. Wear earmuffs while walking the dog past their house and ignore them.

My d had a short term friendship with a ‘home schooled’ girl. I saw no papers out in that untidy house and seriously doubt that the kid was taught at all. I realize that it is wonderful for some families, but some of these kids are being cheated, and IMO abused, by their severe parents. I hope the crook kids get some rehab.

Please let’s remember that this sentence could also apply to students who attend public school. Thousands of public school students are cheated out of a decent education every year. And it’s a well known fact that students (where ever they attend school) are sometimes abused by there parents. It has nothing to do with homeschooling.

Absolutely.

The OP’s neighbors behaved despicably, and they may be a few sandwiches short of a picnic, but they are not representative of homeschoolers.

I just love how the blame got shifted onto the person who caught the kids in the act…no personal responsibility is a growing problem in this country

Two police cars are parked in front of my neighbor’s house as I type this.

I should be at Kol Nidre right now, but last night our puppy started having seizures and the vet doesn’t want her left alone. I think I might take a short walk right about now.

Interesting development . . .

Hope the puppy is doing better soon.

Keep us posted, please. Particuarly about the puppy.

When you’re down do you want people gawking and cheering? Probably not, right?

Maybe resist the walk and ogle. Just a suggestion.

You can stream Kol Nidre services from our synagogue :)

I hope your puppy feels better soon!

Eager for an update, boysx3.

neighbor nightmare: The man across the street from us hired treecutters to cut down about ten saplings on OUR property. He said they were shading his driveway, making it icy in the winter. When we told him not to cut ANY trees on our property in the future, he reminded us of our newly increased visibility when pulling out of our driveway!

During the first few years we lived here he would walk his little dog across the street to our driveway to do his daily poop ON our driveway! My husband would shovel it up and fling it onto the guy’s lawn. After a few week, H began throwing it on the neighbor’s walkway. We had to wait for the poor old doggie to die before it stopped.

…and, compared to the OP’s nutjob neighbors, boy do I feel lucky! :)
