Weather delaying Christmas deliveries?

Update - dd’s birthday package arrived yesterday, over two weeks after it was mailed from four hours away. MIL’s packages were supposedly delivered on the 15th so we’ve started the claim process with UPS. Makes for a kind of sad Christmas, as she loves the holiday more than anybody in our family. Sigh…

We have not had any mail for a week now. I stopped by the local post office and asked if they could just give my mail to me, and they were very happy to do it! I saw a guy at the same post office doing a happy dance when was handed the package he was waiting for, and a couple of very sad folks who did not get anything. (I was waiting for a check from my broker so I could shove another Camry off the tuition cliff.)
I expect that neither a mail truck nor any other delivery vehicle can make it through my neighborhood for another couple of days.

My Christmas ham just arrived- we are debating whether it is edible, it was actually due here on the 23rd  but it seems quite cold!!

Update here: we still don’t have our Wii that UPS was supposed to deliver a week ago. My husband called UPS today and they have no idea where it is or when it will arrive. Not happy.

I’m in the same boat at the PP, but am in Seattle. I placed an order for a client on the 18th, It shipped 2 day air from my vendor on the 19th. I should have been delivered the 23rd. According to the UPS site, it has been here in Seattle but marked “adverse weather conditions” since the 22nd. I finally called UPS on the 26th and asked if they had any idea where it was and when it would be delivered. They didn’t. I called my vendor this morning after checking the UPS site and seeing that the status hadn’t changed. They are remaking my order and sending it overnight (at no charge to me). THAT is customer service!

Boo-hiss to UPS. Since the 22nd I have received 2 pieces of furniture shipped UPS, and a large package via USPS. I think that one package may be lost for a long time…

UPS brought our Wii today, a week late. Better late than never.

Our (Seattle) UPS driver brought packages to our door at 8 p.m. Christmas eve. I asked her today whether they weren’t allowed to just call it a night, and she said “No.” She also told me that they will be required to work tomorrow (and the 1st, I think), days which were supposed to be holidays. She has been our driver for years, and is upbeat and terrific. She commented, “At least my route is clear now,” but noted that drivers for some other routes head out in the morning with trucks full of packages and return with many packages not delivered due to road conditions. I understand that many packages are inaccessible at the distribution points due to the sheer volume of other backlogged packages (on top of them? in front of them?). I really appreciate those folks who have reported to work despite crummy weather conditions and have attempted to do their jobs – many working overtime and missing planned days off. I told our driver that I hope they are paying her many times her base salary for the holiday work, and she replied that at this point it’s not about the money – “We just really need some time off.” And she looked like it. Thank you, Lisa! You’re the best!
