Weather delaying Christmas deliveries?

Reading the travel thread with the poor kids stuck in airports all across the north has me wondering about packages- are they making it on time?

My Fedex guy walked about half a mile round trip, up hill both ways, in knee deep snow to drop off a box at my front door…I was impressed. One of the hills is San Francisco worthy, steep and exhausting, so I called in to the headquarters to compliment him.

My mom has a ham coming for Christmas dinner, sure hope it arrives!

If packages are arriving, why are those airlines so much better organized than the people movers?

I think packages are arriving because people didn’t order as much stuff this year, yet the shipping companies probably hired the usual amount of seasonal help.

Everything that I ordered from Amazon or other vendors arrived ahead of schedule this year.

DH ordered some wine for online for gifts and for us! Ours arrived today, no problems!

I have had no problems with anything I have ordered being shipped and arriving on time, but in all fairness to the airlines, moving people and moving cargo are a little different.

Cargo doesn’t have to be processed thru a gate with complications of delays, connecting flights, cancelations and other issues.

My husband did order some things for me that have yet to arrive ( within 3 day service with regular delivery ) The company’s customer service is pretty awful and I am afraid that we will have to file a dispute with our credit card company.
Darn it…it was something I was looking forward to !!

We didn’t get any mail at all on Friday. And the packages we have gotten seem to have taken longer.

Mailed gift packages from 2 carriers. I found the larger boxes are best handled by Fedex ground. Very small packages are MUCH cheaper via USPS.
Fedex ground took about the time they expected (+/- 5 days).
USPS took 2x longer than they advised (13 days instead of the expected 7)!

UPS in Portland, OR was unable to get some packages out of Portland Monday–which will effect some two-day shipments. My guess, though, is that a lot of them will still go through.

Everything I’ve ordered has come much quicker than I thought.

The week of Thanksgiving, I ordered a new kitchen table and some new chairs to go with it. Was told the usual delivery window for custom orders was 4-6 weeks. I was gone for a little over a week, and when I returned home, there was a message on my machine from Dec. 11th, saying the items had arrived and were ready to be delivered. I stopped by the store to let the design consultant know that the order was ready and she was shocked. She absolutely was in disbelief that it had arrived so quickly. And yes, it was the correct order; it was delivered yesterday.

A family member is sending me a ham and we decided to use it as the Christmas Day dinner main dish- it was due yesterday, but UPS had weather delays. It is on the truck now for delivery, but I sure hope the UPS guy is as intrepid and determined to complete delivery as Fedex was or I will have no dinner:(

We’re waiting for UPS to deliver some gifts shipped via Amazon. They were ordered in time for Christmas delivery but haven’t appeared on the scene yet…It’s not a crisis. A note can be wrapped in a box.

I mailed my D 4 packages cross country. I mailed one on Thurs, the other 3 on Friday afternoon. Sat afternoon she had 1 of the packages I mailed on Friday. The other 2 from Friday arrived Monday am. The package I mailed on Thurs had not arrived by the time she left on Tues. USPS. (priority mail)
She was not planning on coming home for Christmas. She decided on Monday and was on a plane on Tuesday. Otherwise I would have not mailed her presents.
I have had good luck this year with deliveries. We have had the same UPS driver since my college age kids were new babies.
What we have noticed is a delay with regular mail. My H mailed my D a rent check that took 8 days to arrive. I sent her another letter that had come to our house last monday and it still had not arrived Tuesday.

I’m in Portland OR and we haven’t received several packages that were supposed to come via UPS. We did get a FedEx package yesterday, and our mail has been arriving just fine. I’m kind of annoyed because here it is Christmas Eve and some gifts we were planning to give the kids are not here.

Christmas eve, it’s raining, it’s 7 p.m. the door bell rings, it’s the FedEx guy, he’s doing his best to be cheerful but I can tell he’s very tired. The big THANK YOU and the $10 I gave him seemed to brighten his spirits. Thank you FedEx guy!

I heard on the news this evening that FedEx and the Post Office will be delivering on Christmas Day. I didn’t hear the whole story, so don’t know about UPS. We’re still waiting on one package, but apparently it’s for me from one of my boys, so no problem.

USPS only delivers Express Mail on Christmas Day.

Amazon express shipped one of the items and it arrived in time. I was surprised since I did not order express shipping. Nice CS touch for Amazon. But the other two films ordered via Amazon are going to come late. The USPS tracker shows they are still a day away. I played it close to the deadline and got caught.

The D’s mountain bike finally came via FedEx just as we were leaving for church last night…I told the driver “I thought it wasn’t going to make it”, he thought I was talking about the truck getting up our icy driveway! He got some cookies fresh out of the oven…

I ordered two books last week, one from Amazon and the other from a dealer through Amazon. The Amazon book arrived last week. The other book hasn’t arrived, although it was guaranteed to be shipped by the 18th, and if they just put it in an envelope and sent it first class mail it would have been here. I’m not thrilled. If they were going to send it book rate I think they should have disclosed that and enabled me to select the more expensive shipping rate.

We had a pleasant surprise. Mailed a big box to S1 last week parcel post. It was too heavy to pay priority. They said up to 10 days which would have been after Christmas. No problem, I just told my son it would get there eventually. It arrived in 6 days and made it for Christmas.

We’re still waiting on a package from a friend for my dd’s birthday on the 14th. Mil’s packages haven’t arrived yet either - I’m not sure how she sent them but she gave plenty of time. Glad to hear they are delivering today. And I never thought about the weather affecting deliveries! She’s in GA and we’re in TX so you would think the weather wouldn’t affect us but you never know what’s happening within the entire system.
