- Husband couldn't get today (Tuesday) off but is taking this Friday; short week, long weekend.
- Payday Thursday (job) and Friday (pension).
- We'll hit over 90 degrees and I weigh 25# less than I did last year. Really excited and nervous to see if it makes a difference in my level of discomfort. I'm a cool-weather creature at heart. The ideal weather is mid-to-upper 50s, partly cloudy, and windy. Year-round, please.
- ETA I adore record-keeping, so I'm also looking forward to some pending transactions clearing our online checking account. (Long weekend delayed everything.) I like having the bank's numbers line up with my internal records, and I croon over reconciliations. Have always been like this. Can't even blame the pandemic.
- shorter work week!
- outside running in decent weather
- reading good books
- weekend virtual get together with some friends
- weekend zoom with our kids!
Except for #1, I look forward to these things every week.
- Haircut
- Maine in late May!!
- 34th wedding anniversary on May 31. Married to an amazing man. :)
This is a good thread. Thanks @abasket . I find myself disliking the current situation so much that it is hard for me to look forward to much. This is a good reminder to focus on the positives. My work weeks are tough with long days, but I look forward to the flexibility of walking my dogs during breaks in meetings, getting our main part of the house AC fixed and going to a drive-in concert on Saturday night.
I’m going to be phonebanking for my favorite candidate Wednesday evening.
Also going to be conducting a training session on Thursday for the volunteer group I’m extremely active in. But that’s nothing new; I do it just about every week.
Going to try to hang (with DH) a very very heavy mirror in the guest room. We may need to call the guy, but we’re going to try it ourselves first.
And, after a necessary repair to my built-in outdoor wooden planters, I’ll be putting in more top soil and then visiting a local nursery to get some plants to throw in.
ETA: Thanks for this thread. My initial reaction was to post “Absolutely nothing” as a comment, but this got me thinking about small events!!
I’ve been killing it on Facebook marketplace. I’m trying to beat my previous week’s sales for the third week in a row. Being around the house this much has helped me realize how much “stuff” we’ve accumulated that is currently unnecessary.
1)My last week on overpriced health insurance.
2)Videochat with grandkids - we do this every week, but it’s always something to look forward to
3)Weather nice enough to go for a walk.
4)Trying some of the recipes on the food thread
I scored an order of my favorite paper towels (Viva–plain white, pick-your-own size) in my grocery delivery this week. I’ve been trying to get these for weeks and I always end up with substitutions. Sad that this is the only thing I’m looking forward to this week.
Yes, that’s the point - mentally working to try and keep the glass part way full!
And realizing that often it’s the little things that count and provide pleasure.
Not the brags, not the successes always - but the simple PLEASURES or PLANS.
I love that it seems more people are enjoying cooking, or gardening, or walking or reading or puzzles.
Plenty to beat ourselves up about - combat that by looking for the simple, upbeat, “for me” moments.
Last week I texted a friend to confirm drop off time for dinner (they had a meal train going) and she asked if we’d like to socially distance over dinner together in their backyard. We did and it was great. So this week, we invited my bff and her h to do the same at our house and then another friend asked if we would do the same at their house. So, in person socializing (total of 2 couples, outside and socially distanced) has begun for us and I am so excited!
Otherwise, there’s a special bridge tournament going on this week so there will be lots of bridge. There’s also a zoom call with my 2 sisters and their partners (we’re doing that about once every 3 weeks) and I’m meeting with 2 of my students over zoom to help them work on their college application processes.
I now have something to look forward to this week. I leased a new car thIs morning (old lease up in August.) Dealer is delivering it to me Thursday,
This probably belongs in the A Day in the Life of Social Distancing thread, but every day is almost exactly the same here, so there is no event or change to look forward to. In fact, I’m not sure our days aren’t identical:
- Get up -Talk our usual walk
- Shower
- Breakfast (or not)
- Stay in the house (read/cook/bake/clean/sew/crochet/surf/small projects like washing windows, trimming plants)
- Lunch (or not)
- Cocktails (sometimes virtual with family/friends)
- Dinner
- Read or watch a movie
- Bedtime
DH can “look forward to” a weekly curbside grocery pickup and twice weekly mail pickup. Except for two trips to the post office and one doctor appointment, I haven’t crossed another threshold since March 9th. That’s it. So, I’m expecting this week will look like all the other weeks. I do wish we could plan to see our son though. That would be something to look forward to.
H’s birthday is tomorrow. We had a little celebration yesterday with our “bubble.” Tomorrow we are getting takeout from a breakfast place by the beach and we have a spot we can eat and overlook the ocean without breaking the rules of no sitting on the sand.
My company did a big migration of email and our domain name over the weekend and things are not yet working well today. So instead of sitting here unable to work H and I are headed off for a local hike and hopefully when I return I can get some work done!
Those of you doing SD backyard dinners. Weird question but, how are you handling bathroom breaks? Near enough to go home? Quick trip inside? Hold it?
Isn’t it bizarre to be worrying about such a thing!
For our SD cook-out I cloroxed the downstairs powder room which is just steps inside the back door and that was reserved for the guests. After they left I cloroxed again.
Honestly, the bathroom thing is the biggest thing keeping me close to home otherwise I’d venture off my property more in safe ways with zero contact with others.
We have family coming over at the end of the week to eat outside at different tables. I have a bathroom in our lower lever and a powder room on the main floor that I can use for the different parties coming over. We’ll clean them before and clean them again after if used.
We’ve only had our daughter and her fiance over and didn’t do anything special about the bathrooms. They were only in the powder room which we don’t use anyway, generally. At their house I used their bathroom, washed my hands and that was it.
Today I’m picking up lunch from a hipster noodle place and bringing it to my sister. We will sit outside in her backyard. She takes an immune suppressing drug so it’s a treat for her to have a visit as she shouldn’t go out. Our visits usually last till I need to use the bathroom for which I head home.
My D has a birthday coming up on the weekend and I’m looking forward to her surprise when she gets her presents. Her H has been able to intercept the packages so she is going to think she didn’t get anything.
At my house we have only social distanced with two of our kids and their SO. They don’t come in the main house, we have a room with a bath that is not connected to the main house and we let them use that bathroom.
My FIL is coming over today to have lunch with my H. It will be the first time FIL has had lunch with my H since beginning of March. They have had lunch together every Tuesday for 33 years. My FIL wanted to go to a restaurant but my H invited him here instead. Safer and we have a view from our patio area.
On a smaller thrill I’m hoping to get fresh strawberries today from a roadside stand near my sister. I hope he is there today when I drive by. Also looking forward to buying more cherries this week. Lol for small pleasures.
@emilybee When I posted my answer this morning I didn’t realize I had something else to look forward to.
I grabbed the mail today and realized that the RMV had sent my wife’s truck title!
I’ve been paying $100 extra per payment since we bought the car. I figured we would pay it off this summer, but I was very happy to go into my online banking and cancel the large payments I’d already scheduled for June and July!!!
Friday afternoon I will see my daughter and son in law for the first time before SIP. I am driving to their place in Boston and will have lunch on their patio. They are both physicians so they are worried about me being over 60, but I am a housekeeper so I worry about my transmitting something to them. I will be happy just to see them in person.
This sucks.
