Weight Loss Buddy Check In

" but she does eat things like an apples and bananas" - That sounds healthy to me (except maybe if there is need for extreme weight loss)… especially if it keeps you away from the Reese’s peanut butter cups calling your name from the office vending machines.

Speaking of PB cup, I made my own peanut butter cup a few days ago with unsweetened chocolate, regular peanut butter and sugar free syrup. I loved it!

DH gave me four chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day; I so appreciated that he found something special that wouldn’t do too much diet damage. Scale today reports I am at 160. Hope next week to drop into the 150’s!

@Nrdsb4
“Eating unbelievable amount of sugar and refined carbs” can’t be good for the body, no matter what the “diet of the month/FDA food “Pyramid” looks like again, is IMO. But I totally agree with you that each person’s genetic makeup could play a big role in our body shape/food consumption patterns/health.

I am now back to my weight about 15 years ago (the last time I lost 15 lbs). Back then I was going to the work fitness center a lot at lunch time, and I’d sometimes go down a few pounds… but still end up here. So I will be working hard to try to keep around this weight.

A few times this year I’ve gotten to the lunch yoga class (which is really more of a stretching class). This is the first time I’ve been able to stay the full hour - YAY.

I went to Indian Buffet today, and boy I remembered what Naan tasted like :-).

Down two pounds since last week, hello 150’s! Ate too much sodium and processed food one day and remembered how yucky the bad stuff makes me feel - achy joints and generally draggy. Didn’t beat myself up for the bad choices though - decided it was merely an opportunity to remind myself how much better I feel when I feed my body well.

@yauponredux -yeah to the 150’s. I feel the same way after eating processfood and a lot of sodium.
I read something the other day about mindful eating. I’ve been very aware the last few days how I’m already putting the next bite in my mouth before I’m done with the one I’m chewing. I’m also trying to take more chews before swallowing.
I took legumes, dairy and grains such as quinoa and farro out of my diet for two weeks. I can’t say I felt any different. Weight loss stayed about at the same pace. I’m slowly adding them back in and I’m going to be more mindful of serving size. What that experience did give me was the concept of filling most of my plate with vegetables. I’m going to try to keep that up. Vegetables taste so good roasted. I never liked the taste of most vegetables steamed.

Great progress @yauponredux & @mom60. I like steamed veggies but I like roasted veggies even better  In the summer weekends, DH sometimes makes big batches of roasted veggie medely on the grill (usually along with grilling salmon or meat). . The we reheat the leftovers during the week.

I’ve met my weight goal, but I continue to log food (MyNetDairy makes it easy). It’s partly to keep an eye on calories / exercise. But mainly it’s to start looking at nutrition breakdowns. When I go back for another /vitamin D check after 2 months of the high-dose me, I’ll be ready to answer questions about calcium (still too low from food sources) and other nutrients.

I’m at a point where most people have noticed I’ve lost weight. I’m at a healthy good weight but I’d like to lose about 7 1/2 more lbs. That would put me at a weight where I have room to lose or gain a few lbs and still be happy.
I went out with several friends this week. Several of us stated that we make better food choices eating at home. One of my friends said she was the opposite that at home she overeats and has little control over eating the junk in her house. She stated the Girl Scout cookies as a downfall presently. I made a conscious choice to not purchase any cookies instead I gave a monetary donation to the young girls selling the cookies. I know it was a good call because my D and I baked cookies on Sunday to celebrate a jewish holiday and I have some leftover. I came home for lunch and proceeded to eat about 6 cookies. I decided to put some in the freezer and throw the rest away. It reinforced my decision to not bring unhealthy foods into the house.
How is everyone else doing?

I am using MyFitnessPal to track daily food intake and really like the ease of the app, esp the create recipe/scan function, making counting calories of homemade dishes quite simple. Syill far from my weight loss goal in absolute pounds but clothes are getting looser!
Exercise- I am doing twice a week spins/twice a week TRX, one or two yoga classes and at least four times a week treadmill runs, fitness-wise I am in the best “shape” I have ever been.

Congrats everyone on continued progress! At 155, I am at the upper end of a good range for me. Dropping another 10 pounds would put me at a weight I haven’t seen since I was 40 (I’m pushing 60).

We have two family weddings coming up, and this week on my dress shopping trip, I had to leave the fitting room twice to look for smaller sizes. Came home with three size 8’s, and part of me would like to leave the tags on so everyone can see!

@mom60 I do better with eating in public - it’s at home, particularly at night, where I eat too much or the wrong things. DH keeps a stash of dark chocolate on hand, but between @Marian’s strategy of considering eating it as theft and the fact that I have plebeian tastes and prefer milk chocolate, I am rarely tempted by his. Works best for me to not eat anything at all after dinner, as sometimes it’s hard to stop.

The last time I was successful at maintaining weight loss, I continued tracking what I ate and stayed pretty close to my weight loss plan, adding in things like a Sunday breakfast treat and a drink with Saturday night dinner out. Exercise and weekly weigh ins are the most critical parts of maintenance for me - when I stopped doing that, I started regaining.

I just started to use MyFitnessPal to track Food & Calories. I’m hoping to shake off my general ignorance of the calorie content of the foods I eat most often.

It’s been a bit of a shock to see the calorie count on some (seemingly innocent) items on menus when I’m out.

I bet you’ll like having a food tracker. (I happen to use MyNetDiary, but I’ve heard good feedback on MyFitnessPal). Although throught my life I’ve always been far too lazy to track food by paper, I’ve not minded using an app these past months. Just love the way it does all the hard work … not only for calories but for fat/carbs/protein, vitamins etc.

Yes, certainly it does give you an awareness of calorie count. For example and peppers, cucumbers etc I did know that lettuce (the less fun part of salads) had low calories… but oh my, near zero. And of course entering food like ice cream really does teach you to go for smaller portions.

Even though I met my weight target, for now I keep entering my food to try to fine tune habits / nutrient totals.

My kids are home for break/job change and healthyish high-fat, some junk food and baked goods (the kids are great bakers/ chefs) have returned to the house. So far am down 40 lbs from October, and just hoping to break even this week. The cold weather, time constraints and limited daylight has made 1000+ calorie exercise days pretty difficult. I hit my first goal of being the same weight when my fist child was born this week (yeah!). 10 more lbs to go before I am at the same weight as when we were first dating, I’m hoping to get there by May, then go on maintenance. For once I’m actually looking forward to my annual physical.

It’s amazing how much food males in their early 20’s can consume, and still be rail-thin.

Paper tracking still works for me, but I’m switching over to an app shortly.

^^1000+ calorie burning events is quite a lot - what kind of exercise are you doing in a day’s time???

Congrats on meeting those goals!

Early morning gym workout (60-70 min) =550 cal.
Late aft/early eve bike ride or walk (50-120 min) =350-1200 cal
Walk @ 4mph = 350 cal/hr (instead of driving) for trips under 2.5 mi.
Long bike rides (30+ mi) = 1400-1800 cal

I’m getting about 2 hrs per day on average (including weekends).

What do you guys wear under your yoga pangs, or leggings, or whatever you call them? I’m tired of wearing a long t shirt to hide my bum. It just isn’t pretty in stretchy pants and you can see my underwear lines, hence the long shirts. I couldn’t go without anything… as a droopy, wobbly bum is just not attractive! ’m in decent enough shape to wear form fitting workout wear and feel comfortable, except for my behind. I normally don’t care because I work out st home, but we just joined a fitness center.

I just wear the seamless underwear. No bulk around the leg holes or anything.

If you’re truly exercising you’re going to get sweaty in whatever you wear so…don’t worry about looking perfect. However IMO much truth that a decent outfit makes you feel “role ready” for exercise.

For me, no long tshirt. Just a comfortable sweat wicking shirt. To be honest most times at my fitness center I wear shorts - athletic shorts that are not skin tight and breathable. Cause again, SWEATING!!!

Still have to lose 2 lbs of the weight that I found when we had the big soiree’ at our house a few weeks ago. Tried on some potential MOG dresses yesterday. That was painful. Back on the diet!
