Weight Loss for Dummies

Lol, sjth! Also, keep up the good work…I think weight loss follows the “brontosaurus” trajectory–starts out very small, then snowballs to very big, then slows to small again. Keep going so that you’ll reach the snowball portion.

SJTH :6 pounds for me too! My H swears after 6 weeks weight loss starts to increase ( if you are exercising. 4+ weeks in and hoping for the snowball effect!

Took the plunge and joined Curves today. I like the circuit and flexibility to go when I want. I need someone to tell me what to do!

Noticed my 40 min walk is now taking me 37 mins so added another cul- de sac!

I normally weigh myself on Friday but I did today and am down the two pounds that I gained when i gave up wine! I guess adding the wine back into the diet was a good move!

Today I was at work and had to lift this really heavy printing press to move it from the counter to a table. I have been doing this on occasion for five years and always struggle with the thing. it has been barely doable for me. Today, though, I was able to lift it easily and even hold it for a minute or two while someone moved something out of the way. It’s nice to have evidence of newly acquired strength and fitness!

^ I have noticed I am much stronger when I have to reposition and lift patients up in bed. Surprised my nursing asst the other day. Boosted this guy up so high his head almost hit the wall. (It didn’t thank goodness)

mspearl. How is the shopping going for the dress to wear at senior night?

^ Nice work on the strength training ladies! And thanks for the support. I’m keeping this diet/exercise/21 lb goal quiet, so this is my place to talk and hopefully support others too! I hope you’re right about the trajectory…this 1 lb/week is a little depressing. Going to find another on-demand cardio video to do this a.m. These are really great and I can change them to keep me interested. I wish i could find a zumba or jazzercise one, but they change monthly, so hopefully some more dance videos will be on in a couple of weeks.

Let’s keep on, ladies!

You wouldn’t want to lose more than 1-2 pounds a week…

I am finding it helps to post around here and be accountable, even if I keep it pretty quiet IRL…

Starting weight: 177.8

Current weight: 155.6

Total lost= 22.2 lbs

Goal weight is 125 (I am only 5’2)

Congrats, mspearl. I have lost 4 lbs. so far this year. I hope to lose about 30 more. A pound a week would be fine.

I did some more closet cleaning today–out with the old, but I’m not down to target weight yet, so I’m not loading up with the new…looking lonely in that closet.

Kettle bell swing–I use an old backpack loaded up with books! It weighs about 20 lbs.

Great Mspearl! And I know 1-2 is the goal, but I’d prefer to be more on the 2 side than the 1 side. I have lost too fast in the past and learned that if it comes OFF that fast, it comes back ON that fast. I really appreciate you all, and your gentle reminders.

Ellemenope, now you can be reading some fun magazines and dreaming of those pretty new pieces to add to your wardrobe when you’re ready. I’m excited to start re-wearing some of the things I have already, and not focusing on the long sweaters to cover my butt and thighs!

I was losing at just over a pound a week (five pounds a month) from June through December and as previously noted am now maintaining, although I may be starting down again.

Re clothes - I’m currently wearing a mix of clothes from olden days and am very tempted to buy some new stuff but am holding off for now. I didn’t really have an end goal but am waiting to see if I can get to pre-baby weight. But the clothes out here in California seem lighter and brighter and prettier than the clothes in the same stores in Illinois so I may break down. Or I’ll just have to come back out here to shop next summer!

What I love about CA!!

Just keeping us top-o-mind :)

Hi All! I started out with you and this thread last June, logged onto the diet tracker on Live Strong, but didn’t seem to find a “diet” combination that ever worked. I always knew that exercise would be the key for me, but thought I didn’t have the time – nine hour work day, three hour commute, mindless exhaustion after that each night. After the recent study/article about how a sedentary desk job will shorten your life, I finally got serious about the exercise angle.

I bought [this foot-pedal only elliptical](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VICRO8/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details). I started last Sunday and have been able to spend 15 minutes each morning before work. I already feel a difference in more stamina. The legs screamed at first (still do), but I think this is something I can fit into my day and commit to. So I’ll be joining back in the support group!

Add me to the list of those who have not let on to their loved ones their goals of losing weight. I have a H who basically weighs the same as the day we got married. He is abnormally able to moderate his eating. He also loves to get exercise. If anything I think he could eat more.
I don’t want someone reminding me that I shouldn’t eat something. When I decide to have a crunchy taco I know what I am doing. I don’t need him reminding me. Granted I might weigh 10 lbs less if I would allow him to comment.

I worked out six out of seven days this week. And lost .8 lb. Well, I would have liked a little more to show for all that work, but all the exercise made me hungry, and well, you know the rest. Guess I’m lucky I lost the .8!

Whoo- hoo . Down 9 pounds. Dropped 2 this week. Think adding the extra exercise really helped. 1 more pound and I am scheduling a mani/pedi.
