I’m up there with Eddie…we can whisper together.

I find that Weight Watchers is a GREAT way to actually lose the weight but I have never had much success with their maintenance plans. I either lose more weight or I gain…tough balancing act.

I do as elle does…I weigh myself once weekly…same time, same clothing or lack of same. And I do use the Etools from WW to track everything. Since I’m a lifetime member (and have reached goal at least fifty times in my life…ok…that is an exaggeration…but YKWIM)…It only costs me $10 a month for those etools. YES I know that there are freebies on the web…but I actually like the WW etools.

I weighed myself today…still at goal. You may have noticed…I did NOT weigh in last week…I had been on a little long weekend trip and well…no point in weighing in when you KNOW it’s going to be up! I gave myself the week vacation from weighing in also.

I was reading about the philosophy of varying calories as a means to keeping ones body from slowing metabolism down - and the whole idea makes so much sense. Basically you eat two low days (1000-1200 calories) and then one higher day (14-1600), to trick your body into burning calories and staying revved up. I am one of those lucky people who don’t have to worry too much about weight gain, but even I have noticed a few pounds of flab around my middle, and I know that I should be exercising and building more post-menopausal muscle. I think I am going to try the light day, light day, regular day pattern of eating and see if it works. I am too lazy to count calories, but I know if I am eating heavy or light!!!

18.2 pounds down, lost 1 pound this week. I expected not to loose much after my big loss last week. Heading to the beach on Saturday. My goal was to be 10 pounds down by spring break and I am almost at double that. Worrying about the damage I will do next week. One of my fav things at the beach is to have a glass of wine ( or 2) at lunch. It just seems so decadent. We normally eat out- so many good restaurants!

My plan is to walk ( or run) early in the morning by myself burn some calories. Usually, we all take a walk along the beach together in the afternoon.I am resolving not to eat snacks on the beach- waste of precious calories!

Gibson, if you take a cooler to when you go to the beach, you could throw in some baby carrots, celery sticks and hummus. I did that last summer. It made for a good cool, crunchy beach snack.

Hmmm…that would explain why I gained so much weight when I weighed myself after a week away in Miami, but the weight came off within a week of returning home. Two cross country plane rides…

Congrats gibson!! How long did it take to lose that weight? I am still in the very early stages of this effort at weight loss. Fortunately the initial trajectory has been good, but I know it can’t last at this pace. It is motivating, though.

Was at a movie last night (part of a film festival) with a reception afterwards. Was able to be good with what I let myself eat and was down another pound this morning.

bungalowdweller- Welcome. No specific weigh in day. I just record my loss on a Tuesday, since it seems to be my lightest day : ) I was trying to be funny and playing on the pun!

Jym- since Jan 9. If you read back the thread you will see how frustrated I was earlier on about 4/5 weeks in. Since I stepped up my exercise the weight is consistently coming off. I joined Curves early Feb. I am counting and recording calories on myplate. Walk 40 mins daily and exercise at Curves 4/5 times and take in the zumba class once or twice a week.

I am loving getting back into clothes that have been too small for over a year.( size 12) My recent clothes are far too big. I am resisting buying anything new until I lose another 10 pounds. I have plenty nice clothes I am happy to wear again.

I somehow reinjured my knee when I was exercising to get in shape for my ski trip in Feb. , so am not doing exercising other than walking at this point (and even that isn’t easy, and I find myself limping and my knee occasionally buckling). So for now I am focusing on diet and weight loss. When I get some more weight off and if my knee improves, I will step up the exercise. I am for now avoiding seeing an orthopedist or going for PT, since I figure the first step is to lose some weight. Let me know when you are back from the beach. Maybe we can go for a walk together!

It’s whatever day you choose. I used to do Tuesdays but switched to Wednesdays. Seems like the middle of the week is best for me. I don’t think it really matters as long as you do it on the same day/same time once a week.

I went to my gym yesterday…no not to exercise…I wanted to cancel my membership because when the weather is nice, I prefer to walk outside. Guess what…they let members put their accounts on “hold” for the summer…until October 1. That way, I don’t lose my preferred monthly rate. Perfect!!

Well, I gained 0.6 pound this week, but I’m still at a loss of 7 pounds altogether, so I’m happy. I told my husband we can’t keep going out to eat, no matter how busy we are! My resistance is lowered when I’m in a restaurant.

“Quote:
Is it possible that so much sitting for long periods in the car can bring on some sort of water weight gain?”

Yes, quite possible! I almost always gain and then lose 2-5 lbs after long car or plane trips. My record was, I think, 7 or 8 pounds after a drive across WA.

Agreed…I stupidly weighed myself after a 9 hour plane trip…and was up three pounds. I waited two days…and poof, I was then down those three plus another two. Water retention…I should have known since I was wearing sandals in the middle of the winter and THEY were tight!!

Friday weigh in and I have finally arrived at a normal BMI!!! It is just a tiptoe on the other side of the “overweight” line, but it is on the CORRECT side. Now the goal is to get into mid-range BMI , which means another 12 pounds and then I go on maintain regimen.

Hooray for you, ellenmope!! That’s my current hope, to move from overweight to normal on Wii Fit.

At least I’ve finally dropped below my previous low, which I’ve been bouncing up and back to for the last three weeks. Only half a pound, but still it’s a relief to see progress at last.

So I don’t know if anybody saw Dr. Oz this week–I don’t usually watch him, but there he was: he had some suggestions for fat-busting supplements for various body types, along with diet suggestions. Among them were red clover tea for those with large behinds (along with a higher protein, low fate diet); white kidney bean extract for those with large thighs (basically same diet); and raspberry ketone for those with all-over fat. Apparently the raspberry ketone inhibits fat retention or something. Just FYI–maybe see if you can watch this episode or see a recap online? It may all be bunk, but I have kind of respected the guy in the past.
