If you can’t exercise with your ankle/legs, can you do other things with your upper body? I’m thinking of wheelchair athletes who are fitter than most of us, from the waist up. You can lift dumbbells for example.

Good news Marilyn. The PT should be able to help you ease back into exercise.
I would hate for this thread to close down. I am in a period of stress. I wish I was one of those people who can’t eat when life is stressful. Nope. I am one of those who still have an appetite but I crave comfort food. I am finding I want sugar and white carbs. I can’t decide if I should fight the cravings or just give in and know that once this period passes I can lose the weight.

^Yes. And before you dive into that pasta or milkshake, think what your body REALLY wants. Your brain wants to feel good, for example, so maybe a nice brisk walk would accomplish the same thing as eating junk food. Maybe you’re thirsty, not hungry, so an iced tea would work. Or a piece of fruit.

Well, I fell off the wagon for about three weeks and haven’t weighed myself. Judging by the waistband of my pants, things aren’t good. Back to clean eating this week. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.

Hello all … I have been thinking about all of us.

Also, I should apologize for all my fast finger typos … when I look back at what I commented on with my iPad this summer, I see so many typos in my quick little bits of dropping in to check in on everyone. The iPad is not the reason, it just makes it too easy to drop in, read quickly, make a comment, then do something else. When I have my laptop, I think I am being more thoughtful, as I have to boot it up, use both hands, connect to the internet, etc.

Regarding my diet and exercise, not so good. But I can report that I finally scheduled my mammogram. While a few years late in scheduling, I received good news that all was clear. I had them do a 3D version so that I could get the best picture possible, and they agreed that that was the right approach since I apparently have dense (fibrous?) breasts. I have to say, on the screen, they looked like a 20-year-old’s breasts. Ha. I am so relieved that all was clear, and promised myself not to ever wait so long again. I should be ashamed that my fortune is so good considering so many women that are diligent in their yearly screening and don’t receive such good news.

With that said, I am starting my kick back into health … getting up earlier, taking my vitamins regularly, hopefully will start tracking my food and exercise so that I stay on track. Thank you to all of you for holding many of us virtually accountable for our health!

Good for you Mathmom
I should have done the same instead I ate two large peanut butter cookies from a yummy bakery. Of course they tasted great but I felt tired and blah afterwards.
Good advice from all. My mind knows what I should do but haven’t been able to do it. I need to figure out a healthy way to relieve my stress.
SnowflakeVt- good for you on the mammogram. Count me in as another who is overdo. I did go for my physical yesterday and had the dreaded pap. Got the order for the mammogram (now need to schedule), got the flu shot. Need to go get the blood work done.

I had my last mammogram last October and it had been 2.5 years! I got a call back for more films and that scared me. I won’t wait that long again.

Snowflake, love that we have been driven to admiring our “assets” as they appear on a radiologists screen!!! Lol. I have an image of you looking at that computer and saying “Hey,not half bad…”

Well, I’m overdue for my colonoscopy so I guess I better start doing lunges and squats! Lol.

I did well today as far as healthy eating. With one exception. It is 95 degrees here and I spent the day in an building with no AC and 600 kids. So, right now I’m having a cold Corona with a fresh lime.

After stalling at a 10 lb weight loss for several months, I finally decided to break down and start keeping a food diary again. (This was an integral part of my last successful weight loss/fitness program.) A friend has been very successful with LoseIt, and singing its praises to me for months, but I looked at some reviews and decided to try MyFitnessPal instead. On Saturday I started with MFP, and I have to say I love it. I find it very motivational, and it is good to know exactly how many calories I have actually eaten, so that I can eat up to my target amount without feeling vaguely guilty all the time for consuming anything, which for me can turn into a what the hell I might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb scenario. :)

One of its virtues is that you can also enter your exercise, and it adjusts your calorie allotment accordingly. Despite the increased allotment, I am aiming at 1200 per day, give or take. So far, I have found it more often chiding me for eating too few calories, actually. Since I must eat a low carb diet, unless I overdo it on oil/fats and nuts and/or drink too much wine–which is what I was doing before–it is hard to rack up a lot of calories.

Anyway, it is working! This morning the scale finally dropped a solid 1.4 lbs: great progress since Saturday. I’m feeling very positive.

The app, BTW, is free. I highly recommend it.

Go Consolation! If I don’t snap out of my slump, I am going to go back on MFP to get re-energized. My summer of 5 new lbs is not a lot on most people, but when you are short, it is much more obvious. I have had a stressful chunk of time at work over the last 5 months, but am hoping that things will continue to settle down so I can get back in control.

But hey, when your breasts look this great, who cares about 5 lbs.

I’m with you, Snowflake. Short. And off the wagon for two long. i broke down and weighed in today and I had gained back five pounds over the summer. Ugh. It shows too.

Sounds like a few of us should have a 5 lbs competition to force our focus. Weigh in for me is Monday morning. Anyone else want to join us for a 1-month focus on slimming to lose 5 lbs?

(I focus better with competition, even if it’s virtual as it holds me more accountable. If this annoys you, just skip this 5-lb challenge.)

I need to do this, but am leaving for vacation on Sunday! I can weigh in before I leave and see how I’ve done when I get home. At least I’ll be doing a lot of hiking.
