Weight Loss for Dummies

This was our latest book. It’s very good, lots of different elements in it. Clever, for lack of a better word. I wonder how authors continually come up with these plots!

Apparently if you just use smaller plates your portion size will reduce naturally. And people who eat off colored plates take smaller portions as well. >>>>>>>>>>

Yes, we use salad plates often instead of the dinner plates …which are white!! LOL. Oh well.

VaBluebird-
Is the book post meant for a different thread?

We also use dessert plates often instead of dinner plates. I have fallen back into snacking too much, which doesn’t typically involve a plate (though sometimes I put fruit on a tiny saucer or in a bowl). Gotta stop the snacking, or get back into doing mostly fruits and veggies.

^ you can blame me @jym626 for the book post. I asked what books they discussed at their book club meetings.
With clear emphasis that it was not to derail this thread, just “inquiring mind” wanted to know.

Carry on,…thanks @VaBluebird

I use lunch plates for dinner.

No worries, SouthJerseyChessMom- I thought maybe it was meant for the book of the month thread. Don’t recall seeing a question about books.

Carachel- where in AZ are you?

SouthJerseyChessMom asked in this thread: "@SOSConcern and @VaBluebird curious minds would love to know what books you discussed at your fun book clubs??? Don’t want to derail this thread, but curious what you read? There are excellent book threads-so don ft want to derail this one. Just curious "

Hence, the post about what book we read.

OK. Missed that one.

Anyone interested in book club - include me in the group and I will be happy to share what books we choose and discuss. We have a wonderful group of women, so I try not to miss - each hostess is who selects the book chosen for that month. It stretches me out of my normal choices.

There are monthly cc book club threads. I’d link one but my iPad is making it difficult.

So today I managed to keep eating light in anticipation of a nice dinner out with a friend who was in from out of town. I think it worked out ok. Am getting a sore throat though. Hope it’s nothing.

Re: plates - we just bought new dishes and noticed that most of the dinner plate options are huge! I talked H into going with one of the few smaller plate options.

In other news, I registered for a womens training group (for walking/running) sponsored by a local running club. Starts in April.

I am faithfully recording every morsel I eat into My Fitness Pal. Also my exercise. But anyway, this is what is making me more successful. I was especially bad with “a bite here and there” before. Now, I stop because I have to track it! Yesterday, I was bad, consumed about 300 too many calories. Oh well. The day before I had underconsumed and they actually give you a warning that you may not be eating enough! LOL. That rarely happens in my life! I am going to a baby shower/dinner tonight so I have eaten accordingly so I can know how many calories I have left to use. I am going to do some cardio and strength stuff before I get ready, too. Even though I don’t intend to indulge into the extra calories given, at least if I go over some, it’s “okay”.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

I went to the zoo and walked about three miles, some of it even uphill. Then had a mini hot fudge sundae. It’s DH’s fault - his idea. I blame him.

It was just a mini sundae. Could have been a bigger one. So you did good ;). It’s just amazing when that yummy food just jumps into our mouths, Marilyn! Yesterday a bag of chocolate covered cranberries jumped right into my shopping cart! But Yay for walking 3 miles!! Hope you are feeling better.

I have finally hit the half way point. Lost 10 lbs. Ten to go to hit my goal, but it’s a goal I target to hit because the real maintenance weight is probably a pound or 2 higher than that (if past experience is any indicator). Bought some new sports bras yesterday and some leggings. Slow and steady…

^ I,too, bought new exercise clothes- motivation and reward !
10 lbs impressive jym626!

H just broke through to 206. He now has set a goal of 195 (he is 6’3") and he will get there in time. We talked today about his getting down to 180 in his early 50’s - he ran a lot and ate little. People at his work place thought he had cancer but were afraid to ask! He had to go see our doc and when doc saw his weight (he had been 223) he commented concern, thinking it was something medical, but then H said “yeah, I lost weight because I worked my butt off”. I told him he wants to weigh 195 at home naked so he can be on a scale elsewhere with his clothes on and be under 200. I am glad he is taking care of himself. Plus it makes my life easy with cooking/cleaning up. Our food budget has gone way down.

Most people over a certain age have to watch their caloric intake and maintain active and more active to keep their weight in check, and to stay healthy.

We all want to not have health issues screw up enjoying free time and retirement activities.

I made this dish tonight and it was yummy. 532 cal. per serving

Alice Springs Chicken Copycat Recipe
This copycat recipe of the Alice Springs Chicken you can get at Outback Steakhouse will make you think twice about takeout. Easy and budget friendly.
Serves: 4 servings

Ingredients

•8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
•4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
•Seasoning Salt
•1 cup Honey Mustard Sauce (recipe below)
•4 slices bacon, cooked
•1 cup Monterey Jack cheese,Colby jack or cheese substitute, shredded

Honey Mustard Sauce
•¾ cup mayonnaise (I used 1/2 C. mayo + 1/4 C. plain 2% yogurt)
•¼ cup honey
•2 Tablespoon Dijon mustard

Instructions
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2.Layer mushrooms in the bottom of a baking dish.
3.Add chicken and sprinkle with seasoning salt.
4.Top with bacon and about ¾ of the honey mustard sauce. Reserve about ¼ of the sauce to serve on the side (the reserved sauce should never touch raw chicken.)
5.Sprinkle cheese over the top.
6.Bake uncovered for about 30 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

Honey Mustard Sauce
1.Use beaters to mix mayonnaise, honey and Dijon mustard until well-combined.

Notes:
Could use lower fat cheese and mayo.
Mayonnaise and cheese substitutes are available that are free from dairy, egg and soy. I will admit the sauce curdled a bit but it sure didn’t affect the taste. Hubby loved it.

^ vabluebird you don’t precook the chicken! Mmmmmmm easy, and less cleanup that way. Will save for post whole 30 program.
Special thanks to @carachel2 who wrote such positive things about Whole 30
Success …,
I’m in week three of whole 30 program , enjoying the foods, and exercising ( easy stuff ) and yesterday
Wore pair of pants that were so tight for a couple of years, and they were comfortable yesterday!!!
They are litmus test, and this is working!

That’s great to hear, SouthJerseyChessMom! I’ve been on Whole 30 also since early January. I’ve been feeling so good with lots of energy while on it and it’s been working so well for me with weight loss I haven’t gone off of it even thought it’s well past 30 days. I even bought some new pants to fit me because mine were all loose on me and those pants are already too big on me! Good luck with your journey!

@SouthJerseyChessMom …so excited for you! It gives a lot of people the structure long enough to make permanent changes. And it is a lot of food so you are really never hungry!
