I’ve just found out that DH is sensitive to potato and oatmeal(especially for breakfast). So I substituted cottage cheese with apple sauce for oatmeal and steamed zuchini with butter for potato and butter. We had BBQ ribs with half-head of iceberg lettuce, steamed zuchini, and kolrabi/apple/mint coleslaw. For dessert we had cherries. Almost zero carbs 4th of july celebration.

abasket, this is the recipe I use for crab-stuffed portobellos:

Instead of the large amount of breadcrumbs the recipe calls for, I sprinkle a few panko crumbs on top.

You might also like this recipe, which is very fast and easy and foolproof:

I pour a little white wine around the fish before baking. I don’t use jumbo lump crabmeat, just regular crabmeat. And this can be made with any kind of sole or flounder.

DrGoogle, would you mind sharing your recipe for kohlrabi/apple/mint slaw? It sounds great. I’ve never tried kohlrabi.

NYMomof2,
Here is the recipe for kohlrabi/apple/mint slaw.

Wow, DrGoogle, that looks fantastic! Thank you. I can’t wait to try it.

Brought the leftover “goodies” from the weekend into the office today - get them out of the house!

Was really hungry this morning - more than usual (maybe because of the not-so-good eating over the weekend?) so started the morning with a yogurt-PB-cocoa smoothie and an open faced egg white turkey sausage, cheddar egg sandwich (only 1/2 of a whole wheat bagel) - a little more calories than what I normally have I would guess, but I could tell my body wanted something a little more substantial - so bigger item, but still decent ingredients.

Where are all our thread contributors?! Come back from your holiday weekend and jump back on the train!!!

^^^
Haha! You caught me, Abasket! I’m still away on vacation and trying, trying, trying to watch what I eat! I’m afraid my stomach feels a little more pouffy than it did before I left :(.

Of course the relatives that we are away with think I’m a health food nut now. Jeesh!

EPTR, they are just JEALOUS of your new habits!!! :)

I ate very poorly this weekend (had company, had a party, went to another party), but I have walked for an hour this morning and feel better.

Weekends/days/weeks like this are bound to occur! Best to “fess up” and move on - you can be back into your new, better habits within a day or two if you are motivated!

I’ll fess up to…
Strawberry shortcake
Birthday cake
Pulled pork nachos
Chocolate chip muffin
Ice cream (maybe more than once…)

Certainly was SOMEWHAT controlled and didn’t have a full serving of these like I might have had in the “olden” days, but none the less they were had - and enjoyed! Until about yesterday when I admit to feeling bloated and sluggish.

I am OK with my splurges - they are bound to happen - but I can feel just as good with the skill, knowledge and motivation to get back on track for the week. :)

Wine.

More wine.

nacho chips (which seemed perfectly okay to eat after two glasses of wine).

BIG puffy marshmallows. No s’mores, just the big marshmallows.

champagne to celebrate older d’s house

More wine.

Pancakes for breakfast.

I also had lots of good healthy things, too. But I drank the list were my indiscretions.

Son in law surprised D with a recreation of their wedding cake topper (3 years ago in June) and they brought it over for dessert last night. Beer and wine. Pancakes yesterday after my 5K race.

Pinkberry frozen yogurt is my new addiction. It is not horrible in terms of calories if you stick to the smaller sizes and fresh fruit toppings. (which I don’t always) If you have one near you, try it. Or maybe not. It feels healthy to me.

Cornmeal pancakes, bread at restaurants, chocolate cake with strawberries, and ravioli for one dinner, were the outliers. But in fact I wasn’t tempted to have larger portions of dessert than usual, just found myself permitting bread/pasta/etc. Waistline, happily, unchanged. Most likely due to no overindulgence in wine, and a fair about of jumping about. Also decades of eating with restraint seems to pay off with some resistance to the impact of indulgence.

Keep your conscience clear. Call them s’mores light.

There we go! Spill the beans, be done with it and move on!

Good- kept up my exercise routine.
Bad- Crispy beef taco and enchilada verde made worse by the chips and guac. These from a very good mexican place. Had to have the chips since they make them when you order so they are crisp and hot.
Homemade Mac and Cheese- made my S’s GF
Hot dog at the beach- not worth it
Peach pie- my first attempt. Luckily it didn’t turn out all that good so I was able to stop at one piece
Kettle Chips-BBQ once I start I have a hard time stopping. D did me a favor and told me to put them away!
Today it is back to my plain oatmeal, going out to lunch but it is at a health food place so I should be okay.

worknprogress,
The only conclusion I can draw from your abundant wine consumption is that you were on vacation with an extended family like mine where the soup du jour is a health dose of “Crazy”.

Okay, so I will spill the beans. I had a double scoop of chocolate ice cream in a cone at Disney world yesterday. We ate at the Polynesian Resort last night and everthing was pretty okay, carb wise except for the pineapple bread pudding with vanilla icecream and creme freche. I felt okay about the ice cream because my sister, who looks like my twin, had a hot fudge sundae. Everything is relative. I felt okay about the bread pudding because I only ate about an ounce of it. Other than that…well…wine, Margeritas. You would understand if you met all of the supporting characters.

Thanks for letting me unburden my soul.

And abasket, YES! They are jealous of my will power and resolve, Damn them!!

Evil meal one of the holiday weekend: Good BBQ, the best potato chips I’ve ever had (and I ate more than my share), a not so good corn muffin, really lame green beans.

Evil meal number two of the weekend: Crabs, butter, cole slaw, beer. I actually had very little butter and 4-5 crabs so it probably wasn’t too evil.

Evil meal number three: French toast with blueberries. (Actually not so evil whole wheat bread only two slices no syrup, no sugar.) And yummy peaches.

Meal number four: I suggested salad for lunch, and there was ham, hummus and whole wheat pita and cheese.

Evil meal number five of the holiday weekend: Pad thai, drunken noodles, beef galanga, green curry, and some sort of coconut soup. I didn’t eat the rice, but I ate a lot of all the other stuff. Dessert was chocolate ice cream with chocolate candy in it. Sil scooped it out and I got more than I wanted especially since I don’t even like chocolate ice cream. Darn. Oh and dh and I split a growler between us which means we drank a lot of beer.

Meal six: oatmeal with lots of fruit

Meal seven: salad again

Evil meal number eight: Giant steak (but I only ate half), corn on the cob, grilled zucchini, big salad, the rest of the growler.

Final breakfast: oatmeal, blueberries, banana, a little brown sugar.

Oh and we had half-and-half every day with my coffee, because sil remembered we liked it. Uh no, I never buy it, though I’ll use it when it’s offered.

We did go to the gym on Sunday and had a reasonably long walk to fireworks.

I also played a lot of pinball at the Pinball Museum. Is that exercise? ;)

Nothing like a holiday to stop the momentum of 5 days of healthy eating. Even on the Tuesday after the holiday, it’s been hard to climb back on the wagon…

I work in an accounting department. We’ve just started our quarter-end madness, which should last a couple weeks at the least. That means a nightly dinner order from whatever nearby restaurant will deliver, and there aren’t too many, or is close enough for someone to go out to pick up. It’s a rotation of about 5 places: chinese, pizza, Ruby Tuesday’s, D’angelo, etc… NOT looking forward to this.

Bring dinner for yourself. Cheese, nuts and a piece of fruit. Or salad with grilled chicken on top.
