Weight Loss for Dummies

Agree 100%. I haven’t eaten in the company cafeteria in quite some time. Last time I think I just ordered a burger patty cooked. I have all of these little containers. A typical day will see nuts (some combination of almonds, pistachios, walnuts, sunflower seeds), cooked eggs, turkey meatballs, peanut butter sandwich, sardines, kippered snacks, okra, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cottage cheese, yogurt, low-carb pancakes, or tuna fish.

If I don’t finish, then I will leave the perishable stuff in the office for a day or two. The nuts and sardines I’ll leave for when I’m hungry and didn’t bring enough. The containers are important as they are standard-sized for me and easy to record in LiveStrong.

BC, are they a certain brand or certain sized container? Like a 1/4 cup or something??? Good idea.

I bought an 8-pack of 1/2 little snack containers made of plastic from the grocery store. I use those to store dry things like nuts. 1/2 cup is the smallest that I’ve found.

I have glassware with lockable plastic lids for stuff that’s heated or wet as the glass is extremely easy to clean and microwave safe. I got most of those in a set at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I bought one of these at WalMart (Rubbermaid) too. The glass containers are pretty heavy and probably would be too heavy for a lunch bag. They are the latest fad in the office though - I’d say that about 45% of people that bring their lunches to heat (we have a large number of Chinese and Indian employees) use the glass containers instead of plastic containers.

Happy to say I was away from home on a vacation of sorts (our second home) for ten days and didn’t gain any weight. Didn’t lose any either but that’s ok.

I ate one slice of pizza for dinner on two occasions and had about three-fourths of a cup of frozen yogurt with fresh peaches on top one night. Had steak on my b-day but didn’t eat the whole thing. I had a crab cake for a meal three times last week. Love crab. We catch them right off our pier. Is it really bad ?

Made the cauliflower “mashed potatoes” last night. I thought they were really good. DH said they were the worst mashed potatoes he ever had! When I let on that they weren’t really potatoes, He then said it wasn’t that bad.

Walked four miles this a.m. then mowed the front and back yards…enough for today.

I sent a senior citizen friend a pic of me from our vacation. She emailed me back and said “don’t lose any more weight. I can see it in your face and neck. It’ll make your neck long.” LOL. Certainly don’t want a long neck!

Potluck going away party next Saturday. My women’s group will be getting together just before that, and it is my turn to cook. I am thinking of taking frittata, raw veggies with hummus, and maybe edamame. That’s low carb, right?

My strategy for the party and my HS reunion the following weekend is to visit a lot, get in the food line late, and walk around with a plate & glass. I am too uncoordinated to risk trying to eat/drink with the other hand occupied. People at my church eat like a pack o’ wolves, so if you get to the food too late, you get only the crumbs.

PackMom: I’ve ALWAYS wanted a longer neck!!! How about giving me an inch or two? There’s only so many times one can roll down a turtleneck.

I behaved myself and lost zip nada none :(

A long weekend away from home… A nice hotel with abundance of excellent restaurants within walking distances… Wine picnics with lots of cheese and fruit… And lots of wine. Only ran twice. My weight is still within the range, and the thermometer skirt still fits! Yipee!

Hey, it’s a marathon, not a dash. Hang in there, DTE!

But think about all the pounds you didn’t gain. Getting through a long holday weekend without back-sliding is a worthy accomplishment.

No problems with the holiday weekend, but I’ve just returned from a two-day business trip where I had little control over available food. I made better choices where I could - only sandwiches for lunch one day, my best choice was tuna on a whole wheat wrap - I’m hoping wraps are better than bread. Don’t know because I wasn’t able to track on MyPlate. The worst thing is that, because I was eating more carbs than (the new) usual, I was hungry all the time and didn’t feel well. I had no problem avoiding sugar and desserts, but too much bread. Great Mexican restaurant one night - should have ordered a salad, but resistance was low and I had enchiladas.

I’m afraid of what the scale will say tomorrow. At least I am back to a full spectrum of choices.

I travel a lot too. I usually have a big breakfast with omelet(spinach, cheese, tomato, ham, onions), bacon strips and a plate of fresh fruit. Because I need to drink a lot when I’m travel, I allow myself a cup of coffee and a glass of orange juice. I normally don’t drink these things in the morning.
For lunch, I usually order a salad with chicken. For dinner, a meat and 2 vegs, skip the potato.
I was good for the 4th of July weekend but I went back to work and my boss brought in 4 homemade cheesecakes to our staff meeting. I went ahead and had 2 pieces. OMG, it was good. Now that I get it out of my chest, I can get back to the low carb diet.

Well, the scale in the house we’re staying in says I lost 4 lbs this week. Hmmm. I’d like to believe that but common sense tells me that something is wrong with the scale. Oh well, we are near the “Magic Kingdom” so I will just suspend belief for a few more days until we get home.

After my two bad days I’m back on track today, actually under my calorie allowance because I haven’t been very hungry. Too hot, and unhappy with the way I felt eating too many carbs.

Glad to see the thread going strong again. For a moment, I thought everyone has given up their healthy eating goals after the holiday lapse. :)

I made split pea soup with Canadian bacon for dinner last night, but ended up eating a salad instead, because it was too hot in the house. The weather is back to normal (cool and grey), so the soup will make a nice dinner tonight.

I’m still away but trying hard to stay on track as best as I can. I will be home Sunday. If I have gained weight by this weekend, i will start tracking my food on MyPlate.

Another challenge yesterday as we spent the day at a large outdoor mall with eateries galore and ended the day with a dinner at the (as we have discussed here before…) delicious but dreaded Cheesecake Factory!

I can’t really say that I overate terribly, but the food choices were not the best choices. A bagel with PB and almonds/dried cherries with a little fruit for breakfast, split some Panda express thai noodles/chicken for lunch and then did the Cheesecake Factory where I had a slice of brown bread with butter, 2 crostini (small) with artichoke crap dip, a fish taco, a spoonful of 4-cheese pasta w/marinara and then a smaller portion of cheesecake (5 us us split 2 pieces of cheesecake - 4 of which were young, healthy not burning-calorie teenagers!). Certainly not the best choices, but trying to keep that glass half-full, at least the quantities were not bad.

Breakfast this morning - a slice of vermont cheddar, some fresh blueberries a cup of coffee and a bottle of water and a banana for later.

Hoping to visit the farmer’s market tomorrow morning to load up on some fresh local veggies!

I am taking it slow-- watching the calorie count mostly. Its slow, but I got off what came back on with the failed low carb approach

Well, I am also back on track diet-wise. Those jumbo marshmallows were awesome, and I can never resist nacho chips, but fortunately, they were at a party and so my exposure was limited.

As for the wine, well I love to have a glass every night, sometimes two glasses, but with the wedding next weekend I may even just stick to iced tea as my evening beverage. I love the Youthberry loose tea from Teavanna, but wholly smokes, is that ever expensive!

May be off the track a bit exercise-wise. I am having trouble with my one ankle and I am afraid a couple day lay-off might be necessary. That will drive me crazy.

I just weighed in and my Wii Fit tells me I’m exactly the same as last Friday - bummer! I was really expecting to see even a tiny additional loss. I was pretty good over the weekend and very careful all week; I’m definitely eating at least a third less than before WLFD and exercising more. I have to keep up a specific amount of carbs for D2 per the nutritionist many years ago, but again I’m eating considerably less of them too. Guess I’ll give it another week or two and if no progress will start charting the food.
