Well, going to be a grandma.

I guess I’m ready to get on board, start getting excited about new life and slap a smile on. D1 is pregnant. She is the drop-out that is in the school of hard knocks…pun not completely intended. Here’s praying that things go well for her and the baby. On my way to adjusting my mindset. You guys send me some prayers and positive thoughts please!!! I need them. She’s 18 weeks.

Congratulations and good luck, cromette. How old is she? And the dad?

Congratulations! I hear being a grandparent is very special! What a joy!

Prayers for sure that things go well for her and for that baby. And being a grandparent…there’s nothing like it. Trust me. Blessings abound. Embrace and cherish it!

I love being a grandma…getting to go see my sweetie in Boston this weekend.

Your D is lucky that she will have you to guide her into being the wonderful mom she will be. The baby is lucky to have you too. And every grandma is lucky to have a little bundle of love.

Thanks you two. YDS, chronologically she’s 24. She’s always had some serious challenges…that’s primarily why the apprehension. I think dad is about 34. He’s in the picture…so I think that’s a good thing. Tests and ultrasounds all point to good things relative to the sweet baby girl. Time for grandma to “adjust”…so that’s what I’m trying to do.

Congratulations, Grandma! How wonderful, you’ll have a darling baby to spoil. And it sounds like your little granddaughter might need some extra-special loving from her grandmother, given your daughter’s situation.

Congrats! BTW… D2 is in a very serious relationship with someone 11 years older than her. She’s also 24. It took me a while to get used to, but I’ve heard so many positive stories/outcomes from my friends who were either in a similar situation, or know other similar couples. But it is kind of a shock at first. I can only imagine adding a baby into the picture at this point would cause some initial concerns.

His age doesn’t bother me. That may actually be the most positive thing about the situation (outside of the sweet baby)

Since she’s been pregnant, she can’t tolerate alcohol or drugs anymore. They make her sick. And the dad won’t let her run wild. Who knows? This might be the turning point. How ironic!

Congratulations!! I, too have a dd that always takes the hard way and she is doing well as a mom. Being a grandma is the best.

Thanks for the encouraging words everybody. I kind of needed it.

Men don’t grow up until they are at least 30, so you are probably right about that being a positive thing. Congratulations, you are going to be a heck of a grandma! And you will definitely know the ins and outs of starting the wee one’s 529 account!

cromette, maybe this is what your daughter needs to gain direction and purpose in her life. Congratulations, and hoping for a perfectly normal pregnancy for your daughter and her baby–your granddaughter!

She wouldn’t be the first wayward kid to turn around once she has a baby. But from all I’ve read from you, you’re a good person for your D to have in her corner, no matter what. I mentor a young woman your D’s age, though her challenges are very different. What you might want to do is help your D look into the resources available for single mothers. There are a surprising number of them out there. My mentee had a young mom’s class she found helpful called Early Parent Support. She also has a counselor she can call if she gets stressed that is part of another local program. If your D is considered low-income there may be programs for her through various agencies too.

I hope everything goes well for your D’s pregnancy and beyond.

congrats and good luck!

Okay, you may not feel like it now…but honestly, I feel that you are so lucky. I can only dream about the day that I have grandchildren. I can’t wait, however it happens, whether it’s the right time or not. Maybe that is selfish, but I just can’t wait to lavish love and attention on a little baby. With a supportive grandparent like you, things can only be good for that baby. You really are very fortunate. Your daughter and the father are old enough, who knows? This could be a wonderful thing for them both.

S and, now, DIL got pg and now we have a nice baby g’son 19 months old.
Was, am I happy, with her at 19 and him at 21–and their timing–No and still no.
That said, my S has grown up simply overnight! We never thought he could be so responsible!
But I do still wait to see if this will all stick. He will graduate less then a year late and she on time. She hopes to go to Medical school.
I give them a lot of credit.
However, I am a pessimist and so will wait. My biggest desire is that G’son does well.
He is thriving and so much fun to visit with and they have made a good effort to visit as they live 4 hours away.
I look back and wish I had at least pretended to be happier about the pg. DIL did not want to parent so there were complications until the end. Now–seemingly none. Funny thing is she is so much like me as for her need for plans and organization—“he married his mom!”
ENJOY__and at least you get to buy girl clothes!

cromette,
sending big hugs. As sseamom mentioned, see if there are pregnancy support groups, even an exercise group. Your young DD will benefit being around other moms-to-be.

cromette, congratulations! Being a grandma is such a joy. There’s no way to understand it until it happens. :)

Be a supportive influence to your D. I don’t know her history but from what you’ve said, she’s going to need you. Having watched a friend involved in raising two grandchildren whose mom used drugs and alcohol during pregnancies, you don’t want to be facing the consequences of that for years to come.

All the best to you. It truly is wonderful to have grandchildren.
