Funny thing is, here I think indicating my gender (female) is fine.
99% of the places on the internet, it is far less complicated to tick the “male” box.
I started out on the boarding school forums and actually met many of the parents IRL. Very civilized and friendly group of parents. But I am really enjoying the more general forums now and think that CC has one of the most intellectually stimulating group of posters that I have come across on online forums. We all need a good argument once in a while!
I have occasionally not mentioned this forum to parents of high school students because I didn’t want them to recognize me and wonder why in the heck I’m still hanging out here.
This is just an amazing community and I learn something new every day. Leaving to go read more on the Flip this House thread…
Oh, the reporter is a student at Georgetown, he told me he checked out CC back when he was applying. Good job, I can only say the threads he dug up on me were fair enough. However I am a bit paranoid to post. But on vacation now anyway, so not posting as much (I just have to go back and correct this one dumb post I made…)
There are definitely more moms than dads on CC, just like there are more female college students than male college students.
Why is that?
But somehow my wife has never shown any interest to be on CC. My child has never shown any interest either, even when he was a high schooler.
I think that in many households, the mom is the parent who takes on the role of supervising the college app process. Certainly not in all households, but in many.
My daughter, a high school senior, does not want to talk to me AT ALL about college apps. It’s driving me bonkers! I told her fine, but money IS a concern, and I’m just trying to help her have as many options as possible.
Some of us are still here because it keeps us distracted when we are trying to NOT to bother those independent grown kiddos that are to busy to call home.
^^^ truer words were never spoken!
Hey, it doesn’t matter how long you have been here or if you are still here after your kid(s) are graduated from college! Haven’t you ever heard of ALUMNI!!!
@abasket I was thinking…“emeritus”
Nah, “emeritus” sounds too old - I’m YOUNG!!!
You must have missed my thread about ankles.
My lame excuse for sticking around CC is that kiddos are still technically students!
Grad school counts, doesn’t it?
@BunsenBurner yes!
Well some posters have the next generation coming up (@Miamidap has grandchildren in high school) so more to come!
Oh my. I told my kids I was off CC. A few years ago.
Now I just refer to vague conversations on the web.
@lookingforward, somewhat same here. S told me to stop saying I read something on CC as I should have given it up years ago. He said you can just say you read it on the internet, but that he’d know where I got it:)
I started lurking in 2002, but didn’t establish an account until 2005. I feel cheated out of my 3 years of lurking loyalty when I see member since 2005 in my profile. Like @BunsenBurner, I do have one doing grad school part-time, but I guess I will be completely past that excuse next May when she graduates.
Haha, I said internet too. I would be too embarrassed to say it’s CC.
