Wesleyan Class of 2018 ED I Thread

My Wesleyan interview was so relaxed and chill. I loved it!

I also did an overnight at Hamilton and for me there were major differences. I stayed over on a Sunday night - at Hamilton, there was nothing to do and I sat in my host’s dorm room while she did her homework. Wesleyan, however, was still bustling with activity and my host took me to one of her study groups for her math class (which was student led) and she was part of some Avenue Q thing (if you look on Wesleying, she’s part of the picture that’s up) so she left me with a few of her friends who took me to Espwesso and Olin. Haha it was really funny seeing some of these people in real life!

That sounds awesome !

Their dorms are very nice and everyone is very open and welcoming. I sat in on a psychology class where they analyzed cartoons and we watched Phineas and Ferb for the majority of class. The Spanish class I sat in on also seemed pretty impressive, considering that it was level I and most of the class was relatively fluent after only about 5 weeks of classes. The food was amazing! So many options! I sat on Foss for a few hours and people were just playing music, throwing frisbees, smoking haha

Is it possible to apply ED2 to Wesleyan if my ED school rejects me? Does anyone know?

ughhhhhh damnit now i want to get in 10000x more then i did 5 minutes ago! why does it sound so perfect

Yes, it’s possible!

Because it is perfect in every way possible…I sat on on a class about mental illness and society and I fell on love. They were reading Dora (Freud) and I couldn’t help but want to interject and become a part of that class.

In all honesty, my parents don’t understand why I chose to ED to Wesleyan as opposed to an Ivy League. It’s true that Wesleyan would be easier in terms of admissions, but the atmosphere is really something that is truly unique.

We’re all woozy with loooooooooove

Yeah that’s the reason I applied to Wesleyan ED. It’s possible I may have had a shot at an Ivy but the culture/environment of Wes was clear that this is where I would want to spend the next 4 years of my life.

For me my parents were apprehensive about my choice to ED at all but I fell in love with Wes and truly feel like I would benefit tremendously at the school.

My parents were apprehensive about the whole liberal arts scene until they visited Wesleyan and saw all the pros. Also they know I want to be a film composer in the future and were amazed at the film culture and the film series throughout the week. That and the other long list of things that Wesleyan had to offer.

My mom fell in love with the campus as well, but I have always preferred a strong liberal arts education to an Ivy, i don’t know if I can explain why right now though.

I don’t like the competitive atmosphere that many top ranked schools have. I want something that’s academically challenging, of course, but not one that’s overwhelmingly stressful.

My reasoning for why I like liberal arts more than an Ivy and also my initial dreams of conservatory is because I love learning and I love learning about different things. I think a lot of people go into college with this idea of what they want to do in life whether it is because of their parents or what they think is going to be the most practical, but in reality, that’s not how life works. I personally believe the only way to be happy with your life (besides family/friends) is to love what you do. If I had to wake up in the morning and not enjoy my work I would be miserable. A liberal arts education allows you the access to discover who you are and what you love. That’s why I think liberal arts schools are so unique.

I feel the same way, but for me I feel that I think the way a liberal arts student thinks more so than other universities. I also feel like there is more of a family type of community in a small liberal arts college, or just Wes, and I need that.

Also I’ve heard Wesleyan is very academically challenging (you will be pulling all-nighters!) but the atmosphere if very friendly/non-competitive which I like.

And yeah I also like smaller schools with no greek life. I don’t want to graduate and not know 9,000 people of my year. Also because of Wes’s (and other liberal arts schools) small size the teacher-student ratio is very small and there’s a lot of individuality and attention which I feel I don’t have in my current public school.

I’ve heard that as well, which is why I love it. I am ready to work hard and challenge everything I think I know.
