hey!! i would love to discuss/vent with other applicants. feel free to share (or not share) what decision plan you applied with (ED/ED II/RD), prospective major, interests, where you’re from, why you love wesleyan, anything!
i applied ED, hope to major in film, love film (obviously) and theater, i’m from massachusetts, and wesleyan is perfect for me in nearly every way (except its distance from new york, oh well)
@CatStevens i know, i’m trying to get in the mindset of loving my second and third choices as well. i don’t think i’ll be too devastated if i don’t get in, because then there’s a chance i could go somewhere in new york. do you know what you want to major in?
Yeah I actually would also love to major in film and/or gender studies. I’m anxiously waiting until we will hear back in 3 weeks! I also agree with you on trying to love your backups if Wesleyan doesn’t work out.
I applied ED1. I’ll be undecided for a couple of years, but I want to take courses in music and sexuality studies. I’m from NJ, about 15 miles from NYC. Part of why I love Wesleyan is that it carries the diversity I’ve grown up with and love. I come from one of the most diverse high schools in the state, and to be in college with a similar variety of students is extremely useful in understanding the world.
I applied ED1 and I am now anxiously counting down the days. I want to study anthropology or psychology, but my mind could be easily changed. I have already gotten into the PA state schools I am interested in, and I am waiting to hear from everyone else. I feel confident that I chose a good range of schools to apply to, but that is different from accepting those as likely options.
@onlyshallow99 that’s a good point! my high school is… not what one would consider diverse. it’s a very good public school in a town that’s 84.6% white, 10.0% asian. we have a fair number of black and hispanic students at our school because of the METCO program (a busing system in massachusetts founded in the 60s to desegregate schools and give opportunities to students in low-achieving districts), but i definitely think wesleyan would be able to open my worldview in ways that my teachers have only really been able to do in theory, not in practice.
I’m going to apply RD. I’m not doing ED anywhere because I need to consider financial aid.
I love Wesleyan! When I visited, the students seemed very friendly and intelligent. I also want to work in their student run organic farm. They have a sizable Jewish population, which is important to me.
I’m applying RD as well. Good luck to all who applied ED! Wishing the best for you all!!! Wes is such a special place, but like the above poster I didn’t apply anywhere ED because I need to compare financial offers.
I am applying ED1 to Wesleyan as well, I am trying to get in with rowing and musical support even though my grades don’t even come close to the standards. Does anyone know the exact date the decision will come out? I am just waiting on the materials to come in by mail, too much of a wimp to look online.
I went to an official visit and they said they’d love to have me but needed to check with admissions and never got back, but my coach who happens to be the Trinity Women’s coach said a month ago that admissions were slow at Wesleyan and the coaches didn’t know anything. However, I heard from a student who is one of the best rowers there that he didn’t know until after his acceptance. I have a 3.3 UW GPA at a hard boarding school with some Cs on the transcript, however I sent a 700 SAT 2, and I am primarily putting in all my extracurricular stuff in with the arts.
So I really don’t know if I got support or not and apparently that’s how it goes with rowers. The coaches contacted often and expressed interest, as I somewhat put them on the spot which led me to them offering an Official Visit. However, for the exception of coxswains, I haven’t heard of any of my rower friends getting any news from coaches who had great erg times and academic prowess.
@timcervera21 Yeah, the women’s coach said to me that they’ll put me on their list in admissions- but who knows how much support that means. I loved the overnight at Wes- now waiting is the hardest part.
I had a similar experience with the pre read. I sent my grades in July first and he didn’t have any news on the pre read but he offered me an overnight anyways. When I had a meeting with him in his office before I left he was just like “yeah your grades are fine, just apply ED- that’s when we recruit.”
I wanna do film and I submitted both an art and film supplement- I think Wes likes to see well-rounded people so having music on your side is great too.
