What are my chances at UVA?

Hi all,

I applied to the University of Virginia early action. I am in state, living in Northern Virginia, and am and Indian male.

GPA: 4.30 weighted
Class rank: 39/318
SAT: 1480. 760M/720R/21essay
Coursework:
AP world history
AP us history
AP comparatice government
AP us government
AP computer science A
AP physics C: mechanics
AP calculus AB
AP calculus BC
AP microeconomics
AP macroeconomics
AP chemistry
AP psychology

I applied to the College of arts & sciences. Intend on majoring in math or econ and then applying to McIntire to get a degree in commerce. If I don’t like it, I’ll transfer to college of engineering. I would also say that my commonapp essay and writing supplements were pretty solid.

President of National Honor Society
President of Political Science club
Job at grocery store
Internship with local politician

Does your school use Naviance? Your rank is going to hurt you. I go to a school in NoVa and UVA is a reach for anyone outside of the top 5% (though a definite possibility). Your SAT will help you, as will your ECs. I’d say you have about a 50/50 chance! Good luck!

Yes, we use Naviance. I’ve heard UVA is big on class rank and being in the top 10%. I’m in like the top 11% so relatively close. I have the 2nd highest SAT score at my school, the highest being a 1510 on the new SAT. As you can see from this, there is absurd GPA inflation at my school; there are some individuals who’ve taken very few AP’s or easy AP’s and are in the top 5%
