What are my chances of getting in?

Hey Guys,
I’m new to this and I need some opinions.

Gender:Male
Residency: In-State, with Legacy, father, mother, grandfather, uncle
Current School: Fluvanna County High School, 15 miles from C-ville.
GPA: 3.6
Credits: 24 through Junior Year of HS
HS GPA:3.6
SAT:1800
Applying for ____ Status: Freshman
School(s) applied to: none, but William and Mary, UVA top choices
ECs:(see bottom)
essays/recs:(see bottom)

I play Varsity Golf and Baseball, play in the community band.
I have taken 4 PVCC (college courses) and have 4 AP courses my Senior Year. I basically take the hardest classes available.
I am enrolled in the Blue Ridge Virtual Governor’s School. Rigorous classes!
I have a lot of community service hours through the local toy lift, schools, etc.
President Math Club.
Future Business Leaders of America Club, Beta Club, LeadAmerica conference Nominations 4 years straight.
Young Writers of America and Big Brother, Big Sister
5 years of Spanish (through Senior Year) and a UVA Engineering class offered at my high school, in which I got an A in.
I work at Carter’s Mountain Orchard in Charlottesville, which is a huge business in Charlottesville.

What are my chances of getting in and does it hurt that my GPA and class rank is low, but I take rigorous courses?
Thanks for any input

anybody???

One thing I would definately suggest for William and Mary and UVA is to send in arts supplements if you are interested in band. I sent them into both schools and got into both.

At both schools I was contacted by the music directors and sat in on rehearsals. As Mr. Pease at UVA said “sending in an arts supplement can never hurt you, but it can definately help give your application that extra push”

Just make sure you watch the deadlines for the supplements because I missed the ED deadline and was deferred but then it was put in for RD and then I was accepted.

Good luck

thanks a lot
i’ll keep that in mind

Take the SAT again senior year and get your GPA up.

Pats4life, since you’re in state, I think you stand a very good chance. Consider taking the ACT. Some students do much better on the ACT than the SAT. Has your school sent many kids to UVA? Remember that colleges take the holistic approach; that is, they look at everything. Unless you absolutely have to stay in VA, you might qualify for some scholarships elsewhere, outside of VA. Good luck to you.

thanks a lot for the comment
our school sends about 3 or 4 kids every year to UVA
My whole life has been centered around getting into UVA and I can’t see myself going elsewhere, but I’ve always loved all New England colleges and would love to go to Boston University or Dartmouth, but hopefully I can get into UVA.
are my chances better for UVA or a scholarship elsewhere, at least partially, to another school?

Based on these stats I think UVA is a good match for you and that you fit the profile! I suggest taking the recommended SAT subject tests and hey taking the SAT again wont hurt (but your score is good either way!). Good Luck!
