Smaller is better than too big for this kid. She has an SAT but she took it at end of 10th grade (1360) so I expect it to go up - my other kid also took at end of 10th grade and went up 100 points. We’ll know more in June.
Sorry I was thinking 1250 to 1350. So a 1360 - there are definitely schools that will work. Mainly publics for budget assuredness but privates potentially too on merit (assuming no need). The privates will be tougher but as you’re willing to go higher, will bring more in range - if you can go $48k for example.
But you could be in at publics well under your $40k.
I misread.
Good luck.
If she’s at all interested in a women’s college check out Agnes Scott in Decatur in the Atlanta metro area. We visited and really liked it. It’s super diverse (about 40% white), very economically diverse, and has a good LGBTQ scene but it doesn’t dominate. It is in a consortium of Atlanta schools so Scotties can take classes at Emory or GA Tech or other schools. Every single student gets a $20k-ish scholarship so the cost of attendance is under $30k, more like $25k or lower depending on other scholarships. Super cute small campus. Walkable to lots of fun shops and restaurants. The MARTA public transport stop is nearby so that opens up the rest of Atlanta.
We’ll be near there to visit this summer so will definitely check it out. She had said no to women’s colleges but worth checking out and maybe she’ll change her mind! She can always take classes elsewhere to meet boys ![]()
