What are some colleges in southeast almost certain to be within $30-40k range? [~3.6 GPA, 1360 SAT]

Whether merit, or discounts that everyone gets.
Pre-med or pre-grad school, STEM focus, 3.6ish UW/4.3W and SAT might be anywhere between 1350 and 1450 (don’t know).

Size can be anywhere between 5k and 25k.
I’ve posted before and have a list going, but want to ask from the cost angle. Can pay more if needed but would rather not so can help with grad school if needed.

Thoughts?

Well…University of Alabama, Ole Miss, Louisiana are likely to come in at your price point.

If you are an instate resident for any of these states, your instate publics will likely work as well.

I would hate to repeat advice you have already received…

Is this a different child than this one?

Stats: 3.8UW/ 4.5W/ top 8% rank/ 1540 SAT/ have 7 APs so far & most all else honors; pretty strong music EC)

Nevermind…I see you will have two in college coming up…so…what colleges are currently ON your list?

Are you a Maryland resident? If so! Look there.

Once you have a test you can get better guidance. But in addition to what @thumper1 noted - you’ll have Ms State, Arkansas, potentially some Florida publics not naked UF.

Then smaller schools such as Troy, UAH, S Alabama, La Tech, La Lafayette, So Miss, W Carolina and the three other NC Promise schools. Likely some regional publics like a UT Chatt, MTSU, and more. You can add Radford, Mary Washington, CNU closest to home. A lot will depend on the test. There will be other publics mixed in - like Ga College and State University. This is the mid size you seek but what’s the difference of 25k or 35k etc.

Also Ogelthorpe and Hendrix - if you get the flagship match - as LACs.

Some schools like Bama and its McCullough Medical Scholars will have enrichment if you seek it.

But a lot of what you want will be dependent on a test score.

But some of these - W Carolina and it’s three other NC Promise (Fayetteville, eliz city state, unc pembroke) will make at full cost.

Coastal Carolina has an honors program and should come in on budget. It seems to be the hot school for those looking to stay in that price range in our LPS.

Yes, different.
Currently have UNCW, Rhodes, Furman, Rollins, UAB, ECU, JMU, and others that would likely be higher if even admitted (W&M, Univ of Richmond)
Still have to do lots of visits.

Child wants to go south and College Park likely too big if even admitted.

If you can be flexible on size, seconding Ogglethorpe (part of a consortium&in big city) and Hendrix (in a town but near big city) would.
Look into Truman State, Southwestern?

I think 25k is already very much flexing in terms of size. Don’t want to get into details but they just would do better in smaller environment as long as there’s opportunities for research, internships etc.

Thanks, lots to investigate in this post!
I think the ones on current list aren’t bad, but I want to make sure there are atleast a few to visit that will definitely come in at that price point.
Like UNCW is sticker price at 40k but I don’t know if getting in is an issue considering only 18% get in OOS.

Interesting - many you just listed aren’t close to your desired size and unless you have need made not get to your $$.

Certainly not a W&M, JMU etc. but then CNU is the W&M sub that likely will - and your student would get in vs an unlikely W&M.

I think you need to revise your list to hit your $$ and admission likelies but you’ll know more after a test.

Any of the North Carolina publics except UNC Chapel Hill and NC State should come in under $40k for OOS or close to it.

While it is true that there is an 18% cap, the flagship university receives many more OOS applicants than UNC-W.

Thanks. I think size can be flexible up to like 25k but preference is to stay closer to 10-15k.
Again, there will be some reaches in terms of getting in and for those, we will be willing to flex in $$ if its really the top choice for kid. Just want to make sure there’s a balance and include some that are likelies in terms of getting in (and cost is closer to 30-40 for those). Does that make sense? So I use budget loosely (it’s more a target).

Hendrix and Ogglethorpe are smaller.
Hendrix is dynamic, innovative, and supportive but it suffers from being in Arkansas.
Both offer a “flagship” scholarship, meaning you wouldn’t pay more in tuition attending their college yhan you would attending your state’s flagship. Not all states qualify but it’s a great deal if you want a smaller college.
Hendrix is more academically rigorous/redpected than Ogglethorpe.

Wow I like that! Might be able to swing visit to Oglethorpe. Just looked up it’s part of a pretty large consortium so should be able to access other classes if not offered.

For business majors Queen’s in Charlotte, though UNC-C is becoming a major competitor for business and computing.
Unc Asheville is in a cool town and well-respected for traditional majors, though they also offer Mechatronics if I’m not mistaken as well as some niche majors like jazz, music tech, atmospheric science.

But then where do Rhodes, Furman, Rollins come in - all very very small.

If you have $$ flexibility, the student will have options but having a test can make a big difference.

For example a UAH at 10k students will be high 20s all in with a 1250 SAT but nearly $5k less with a 1310. But below 1200 SAT then you’re about $40k ish or a tad more.

LACs could work but are much smaller - typically under 2k and could work with extreme merit (assuming no demonstrated need). But you’d still need the assured to meet your top # budget as well as assured admits (so not W&M). Good luck.

Here’s the Ogelthorpe flagship 50. You need to see how they calculate gpa.
