What are some random dorm items that students wouldn't think to bring?

I don’t think theres a single day where I didn’t use my shower caddy.

Only if you’re going to Bryn Mawr.

^^^^ HAHA

Anyways,

Or you could save the space in your preciously packed vehicle and dry your dishes with paper towels like I did :)

I wouldn’t bring dishes. Most people don’t clean them right away, and they get nasty.

Just bring paper plates, bowls, and some plastic silverware to throw away.

A stapler. I never bought one and still don’t have one, but could really use them. Paperclips constantly fall off of my papers and I end up scrambling to find a stapler in the classroom.

I still need to invest in one.

If you know you have a safe place to keep them, then yes. But otherwise, leave them at home. They’re fun to show your friends a peek at what your pre-college life was like, but they’re easily ruined. A friend of mine brought her senior yearbook and someone spilled coffee on it. And unless your school is like mine and sells back-issues of yearbooks, you’re kinda screwed. Not to mention all the notes from friends and teachers are especially irreplaceable.

Anyways.

Bring a 3-hole punch. I brought one thinking I’d never use it, but I actually used it a lot. And I was extremely popular in my dorm come project time.

Also, if you have a kitchen and you know you’re going to use it, a hand mixer. Baking isn’t quite as much fun when you have to spend 40 minutes mixing the wet and dry ingredients.

If you’re drying dishes more than once a week that’s a pretty big waste of paper/money. Why not just get some cheap hand towels on clearance from Marshall’s for the cost of a roll of paper towels or two?

Get ShamWow! You’ll say “wow!” every time.

[Amazon.com: Thomas Ford “rcman50166”'s review of Shamwow!](http://www.amazon.com/review/R1KI6P63YWMF7I/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm)

^^^ I have some of those and they don’t work. :(

Folding camp chair and a flashlight. Bought that stuff for our '09 friends this year. Duct tape is an absolute necessity. Set of jeweler’s screwdrivers. Your favorite movies.

Agree with costume gear, too.

Bring a 42" plasma TV. Seriously, it will win you a lot of friends.

plattsburg: great video

Music and wonder hangers

…Beeeecause they were the paper towels from the community bathroom 4 feet away, and therefore, not mine… haha. If they were my own paper towels I would have just gotten a dish towel instead.

Air mattress! It’s very useful for when friends stay the night and you don’t feel like squishing up in the twin bed.
