Right. And I see that one humble-brag post is actually one of two (different) posts written on different threads. Guess it was just a humblebrag kind of day for that poster!
^^Ah-ha!
I guess they sort of were, but I enjoyed the jaunty writing style. I mean, we all brag to some extent about our kids here, i think. And that’s okay.
True - though there’s a thread for that!
hah, like it could possibly be contained to one thread!
On some days, this whole website feels like humble-brag.
What threads are the most annoying?
The ones that won’t close!
@MADad , can we start an “over under” on how many threads will be started this year, asking about how someone can back out of an ED agreement for anything other than non-legitimate reasons? I say 32.
It finally did!
Words to live by in all facets of life.
Ones where students are really surprised that hundreds to thousands of hrs of ECs are not evaluated more heavily than a low GPA for college admissions. I’m not saying that ECs shouldn’t be considered , but isn’t the main focus of college academics?
Its October. The “urgent! Where should I apply??” threads are annoying. Its hard not to respond “apply to your local library and do your own #)(%*)%&)%&#% research”.
Ones where posters appear to be gossiping about friends or acquaintances , but initially present a question as if it applies to them personally and are requesting assistance.
The current spam ones in Chinese (some also appear to be in Korean now). I flag them as they pop up but there’s so many on different accounts…
The ones where a poster starts a thread (a few hours ago), has gotten several helpful responses but keep asking for more, and bumps the thread when they havent gotten another response.
The ones where OP is asking about his/her chances for an Ivy but the title itself has spelling or grammar mistakes - (sorry to sound so harsh but if you are that careless, lazy or clueless I don’t think an Ivy is for you…)
@myjanda Someone asked for their chances at Colombia University. I replied by asking if they plan on attending the Bogotá or Medellin campus.
@jym626 That is because they have not gotten the response that they want to hear.
Or they’re so used to social media where all their friends are online all the time and respond to everything as if urgent.
I remember that @TomSrOfBoston - very funny! You may have totally done this kid a real favor by pointing this out to them before they submitted an application (or not…
Threads where parents are gearing up for full-on battle with the school if their particular snowflake doesn’t get placed in multiple AP classes…
…in 9th grade.
