What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Which of these two schools should I go to? [Two highly competitive schools that the person hasn’t gotten into (yet, or maybe never)]

The threads started by self reported internationals who list every ivy, with no idea about the differences, and ask which they should apply to.

8th grade parents-- really anytime they post.
In particular those that want to shape their kids ECs to “give them the best chance”

Ones where the responders have to keep asking the OP the same pertinent question but every time the OP responds, they do not actually answer the question. twitches

Threads where the OP has a low ACT score, very low ACT writing score, shows 0 humility, then attacks a poster that cautions him to be humble in his application. Apparently if you tell someone to be humble, you are a racist and bigot. :))

Ones where a poster insults and entire region of people and a school there , but then tries to exuse their opinion by saying “not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

with a simultaneous side of misogyny.

Notice the jail bars.

I’m guessing it’s pretty annoying that I keep telling kids to learn as much as they can about their targets (tippy tops) and “what they look for.” But dang, why can’t they? You wanna go to HYPSMabc, you need to think on that level.

OTOH, love the kids who just need a nudge and then get it.

HYPSM chancing threads where an applicant hijacks the thread and asks to be chanced because he can’t figure out how to start anew thread. If you can’t figure that out you are not likely to get into HYPSM etc.

Lately, I think chance threads should just be under the High School forum.

@lookingforward But then no one would ever comment on them! Although, I guess that’s sort of the point.
Sometimes chance threads that are more of a “am I looking in the right direction” can be helpful to the poster, but I’d agree that the “chance me to HYPS and I’ll chance you back” could be banished with no loss.

Threads where people can spend a lot more money than I can on things that I want.

Mostly kidding.

The fragile Speshul Snowflake brigade who flips out over honest advice.

“Help me, I’m desperate.”. “You’re not helping me and I’m desperate.” Then, “Why are you saying I’m desperate?” Ok, more or less.

The one where a junior member tries to tell a college admissions officer about a program at the admissions officer’s school.

The ones where a kid joins the community a day ago and has already criticized the forum and decided they know more about cc and the posters here than those who have been here a long time.

I’m sure this has been mentioned here before again and again (we are after all on page 135 of this thread!), but it is annoying me again right now.

ED related threads where a poster wants to ignore the binding aspect of ED. There are blatant ones (want to compare packages and then decide, or simply changing their mind) but it also annoys me that people want to use the “not enough FA” excuse so easily to get it out of it when there is very little chance they will get enough FA (or they haven’t even run the NPC). Not only does that not seem in keeping with the spirit of a binding commitment, it seems like a waste of time.

Also annoying are the thinly veiled “chance me” bragfests, or the ones where a student posts their stats multiple times, bumps their multiple threads if not responded to in a few hours, and postures themselves as some self important “watch my journey but get ready for me to complain and yell ORM foul if I don’t run the table” person. Blech.

^^ The Early applicants who think it’s a boost for poor grades. Do they think adcoms are blind? This cultural thing about encouraging everyone to “try” doesn’t mean go in dumb and uninformed, aim several steps above your reality.

Reminds me of a family expression: “oopid is as oopid does.” And you know, the top colleges this Early thing is usually about aren’t looking for oopid. Nope.
