Where parents brag about the pleasure they get in treating their kids like tough guys.
The ones where posters post that their children or they attend a " very competitive high school" to justify a lower rank or GPA . Unfortunately , when you or your child is applying to colleges , you or your child are being evaluated against other students who also attend "very competitive " programs with higher stats.
Threads where high school kids say they have no problem asking their parents to cosign for $160K in loans because they (the student) will easily be able to pay it off in 4 years.
Threads where posters attempt to pass off selfishness as caring for others.
Any thread with the phrase “the teacher didn’t teach.”
Threads where the OP says that they tried their best and only got a B or C. Their conclusion is that the college has grade deflation.
Threads with an OP that is a serious song and dance about something…but there is no question, no issue to discus…just a big song and dance.
That and the veiled advertisements.
Right now the race in college admin thread is being overflooded.
That thread is totally annoying. At best, the blind misleading the blind.
The “mysterious stranger” threads. Where a poster asks about their chances with mediocre grades and test scores but insists that they have a magical something which they can’t disclose but which is certain to make HYPSM want them above all others. Annoying on multiple levels.
Regarding posters who one-up each other about how frugally they live:
Yes, this was like 75 pages ago, but it reminded me of the scene in Deadpool where Wade meets his lady-love:
It’s so much better when done ironically! (I know, I’m probably misusing “ironically” but you know what I mean…)
OK, that was disturbing…
@snoozn Yes!!! The financial aid posts judging others for taking vacations and dining out, buying new cars, etc. are the absolute worst!!!
Annoying or entertaining? A rant about disgustingly disgusting Berkeley and its disgusting students and disgusting alumni. Oh lordy, is there a full moon? Not for another 3 days…
p.s. OP thinks Stanford sucks, too.
THreads with colossally bad advice
I just don’t understand this mentality:
“It doesn’t seem fair to have anyone take on that ominious debt when he has been given other offers of nearly free rides to equally great schools, but not in his dream location of _______.”
Yes, education is ridiculously expensive, but colleges/unis clearly post their costs. If someone is able to get scholarships, financial aid, merit aid etc, that’s great, but it’s just gravy. No one is ‘entitled’ to it.
Is it me?
@Fishnlines29 I think the issue is more that people think life should be fair. This leads to all sorts of misery.
Threads opened up with comments full of political undertones that really shows lack of restraint and frustration. Thinly veiled comments which reflect a posters political views that don’t really belong on this forum as for the reader it sounds like comments often found on facebook which just have me SMH. On the other hand less time on social media leads to more productive tasks getting completed.
Threads where some can post their (political) views and be praised then you post yours and be chastised.
Its not that life’s not “fair.” It’s that 225k to get your “dream” of living in that city is plain old unreasonable thinking, when you’re 17, wet behind the ears, and can’t pay without loans. It’s not rational.
So I’d like to change that parent’s thinking to,
“It doesn’t seem intelligent have anyone take on that ominious debt when he has been given other offers of nearly free rides to equally great schools…”
