What are the most annoying threads on CC?

Several threads that ask: Is UCSD/UCLA/Johns Hopkins etc. a good school?"

My reply has been" “Yes”

There is a thread made by a peruvian kid who wants to go to Harvard and think he really is integral to Harvard.
7 people told him he has low chance and now he is raging that it’s unfair.

I read some of that thread earlier, and have now gone back to catch up. He needs to take his special snowflake blinders off – he is NOT that special.

I think he’s playing you all…Borat style.

In one forum you ask which schools are best for business but in another thread you ask which schools are the best for premed and what to major in if you want to go to med school. Have you looked online at all or do you want us to do all the research for you.

To quote Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest: “Ah, but nobody ever said life was fair, Tina.” Anyway, since he’s not listening, I closed the thread.

After reading the OP again, threads that are based on fantasy. Someone’s middle school relative wants to know how to be head of a federal agency. What’s next? Threads on how to be a congressmen, senator, president?

"Someone’s middle school relative wants to know how to be head of a federal agency. "

Become a billionaire? :wink:

How come asking about shoes and little splurge is okay but asking about a career path for a middle schooler is annoying? @roethlisburger
After all, this is Collegeconfidential, not Shopping Network. :slight_smile:

  1. The shopping threads go in the cafe, which is not restricted to college topics.
  2. Few people stick to the career path they plan at age 11 or 12.
  3. This is why this thread is innately a horrible idea. Someone comes to complain about someone else who will inevitably see the complaint, because you're complaining on the same site as the people you're complaining about.

Don’t tag me, @SugarlessCandy, I’m not the one who mentioned it here. I’m just giving helpful advice based on how current heads of federal agencies got their appointments so you are misdirecting your question. :slight_smile: Nor have I commented on any splurge or shoe threads although I’ve definitely commented on other frivolous threads in the Parent Cafe which is kind of the purpose of the Parent Cafe.

That’s why I’ve always thought this should at least be kept to generalities like “chance me threads” or “asking questions that are easily looked up”.

Sorry! I corrected my mistake. Your advice is spot on. Becoming a billionaire is probably the best qualification to open doors.
@doschicos

Btw, Peruvian kid thread was really entertaining.

What’s wrong with shoe threads? 8->

Great advice @doschicos, but do you have any follow up suggestions on how to become a billionaire for SugarlessCandy’s 12-year-old nephew?

Marry into it? :smiley:

There are not necessarily annoying, but profoundly oblivious threads.
One example would be a foreinger who came here with visitor visa and decided to go college in US. Thatt’s totally understandable but you can’t just proceed to ask what your chances are and how much it will cost without any information. (Can someone with visitor visa even apply to colleges?)

I think her nephew needs to get his own id and post his own question, no?
Seriously folks, if you want to post on an anon forum, don’t you think you either need thick skin or-

…thick skin? And a good sense of humor.

And yet, so popular (post #2479).

I liken this thread to the Kardashians, Housewives of - , and Jerry Springer.

I can’t wait for the next episode.

@SugarlessCandy

  1. I don't think you can plan for careers at that level. If a middle school kid asks how to be a lawyer, that might be premature. If they ask how to be Attorney General of the United States, it just comes across as ridiculous.
  2. Most kids will change their career plans several times before they enter the workforce.
  3. Even if they never change their career plans, the best and perhaps only career advice needed at that age is to pursue your interests and focus on developing the most competitive college app you can.
  4. Lastly, intelligence threads have a tendency to go off the rails with posters speculating about issues, with which they have no expertise. How many posters have ever worked for the CIA or known anyone who worked for the CIA?*

*Other than cobrat’s relatives.
