And don’t include some kind of hint in the thread title of what the subject is.
garland, I’m not sure if you’re responding to my comment. I don’t think so, since I agree with your earlier post, but just in case I’m mistaken – I was trying to say that I find the grammar police threads annoying despite the fact that I adhere to grammatical conventions and think correct word usage is important. The title I referenced was quite pointedly criticized in the opening post of the current grammar thread. Someone misused the word “advise” (an error that was subsequently corrected by a moderator, I assume) and a new grammar thread highlighted that error. That seemed mean to me. I’m pretty sure the title of the grammar thread has also been toned down to make it less nasty, but maybe I’m mistaken about that.
Threads that imply that if you/your kid don’t major in engineering or computer science or a few other select STEM majors, your life is for naught and you will never be gainfully employed.
No, zip–I was definitely agreeing with what you said; I think we are on the same page here.
Godwin’s Law, anyone?
The ones where the only schools students want to apply to are reaches.
The ones where a student assumes a 500 point increase in SAT with one month of studying.
The ones where a student doesn’t want to bother looking up the simplest information, but wants you to do it for him.
The ones where people keep repeating the same things over and over (probably like my current comments).
It was a lower case ‘n’ - that doesn’t count
People usually ignore such stuff, unless a SPAMMER comes here and starts a thread with a pretty obvious misspelling or error in the title…
Just read a post about how poor kids go to colleges for “free” with rich people’s money from the thread about “what is true definition of mid class?”
Oh my god, such an insulting post. It’s more than annoying; it’s offensive. This girl has just been added to my hate list even though she is a new member of CC
The ones that devolve into moot court arguments. If it looks like the lawyers outnumber the non-lawyers in the thread, it’s time to get out of it – unless you want to show it to your kids to talk them out of applying to law school.
This morning I want to say that it’s the ones where a particular contributor gets up on the wrong side of the bed and works her way down the line throwing text based Molotov cocktails indiscriminately trying to see how many threads she can blow up along the way. Some days CC needs a clean up crew to get them all back on track. :-t
p.s. I’m counting the minutes until a certain daughter’s med school success is somehow worked into the Florida spring break conversation.
- Elite vs non-elite schools - which is better?
- Rural vs urban - which is better?
- apple pie vs blueberry - which is better? ...
That last one is a complete red herring because the real answer is sugar cream pie.
No, everybody knows it’s lemon meringue.
Banana cream!
You are all wrong. Strawberry rhubarb is the way to go! B-)
@thumper beat me to it. I’m not a big sweets person, but oh, a good banana or coconut cream pie!
You guys have NO idea what you’re talking about. It’s Strawberry Rhubarb! It’s the perfect balance of sweet and tart.
edit: I missed @BunsenBurner’s post. I guess she does know!
The best pie is the nerdy Pi pie I baked on March 14
@GMTplus7, say what?
