<p>I live in Colorado, and heard that at CU Boulder, students can enter college as a junior with the IB Diploma. I also heard that at Harvard, you can enter as a sophomore in college with the IB Diploma. I don’t know if either of these is true, but do you know of any other advancements that could be made in college if you have the IB Diploma? What about AP - do AP students get the same opportunities?</p>
<p>Harvard, I believe, allows you to skip intro courses but not to get actual credit–as in, you can’t get out of paying money for their courses. Remember that credit depends not on receiving the Diploma but on your individual test scores, and in general, only HL exams with a 6, sometimes just a 7 (occasionally a 5) will get you credit. At Harvard, only a 5 on an AP test will get you credit, but at some state schools it may be as low as a 3. </p>
<p>I have heard that students have been able to start college as a second semester freshman, first semester sophomore, or second semester sophomore between IB and AP credits. However, that’s only been the case, at least with kids from my school, for middling state colleges.</p>
<p>If you’re applying to schools in Europe, they generally prefer IB DP over AP courses.</p>
<p>I’m in my first year right now at a university in Canada. My IB diploma gave me credit for an entire year, including specific classes and general level credit. Since I’m technically a second year student, I get priority for housing and course registration. Getting a 6 in English HL also gave me credit for two classes of first-year English, so I’m exempt from the English requirement at my university. :D</p>
<p>Overall it worked out pretty awesome for me. I’m really glad that I did the IB diploma.</p>
