What are we looking for on Black Friday, 2024

For anyone here with grandkids- the Tonies website is 25% off. I already got a starter Tonie Box for GD on sale at Target, but I got a few more Tonies from their website.

FWIW - I make an effort to avoid buying from Amazon if at all possible.

I am looking for hulu. Last year someone here posted a deal for .99 a month for a year which will change to full price for me on Nov 28. Thank you for whoever posted that!

Thanks, that’s a good suggestion.

Check on Target I think I saw Legos on sale there.

The catch on these Black Friday deals is that they usually are for new subscribers only. So you might need to use a different email and create a new log in.

Our cable system might be taking away Ovation from our package–we only watch one show on it, but we are rabid fans of Murdoch Mysteries. We may be looking for a deal on Acorn on Black Friday—a few years ago we got it for 3 months for $1 (and decided we liked Britbox better, but I digress…)

REI has a special….

  • buy $50 of merchandise
  • Add a $30 one time fee for lifetime REI membership
  • Get a $30 gift card back

For the person who is buying for the crafty giftee, consider diamond painting coaster kits on Amazon or elsewhere. https://www.amazon.com/Billbotk-Diamond-Painting-Coasters-Beginners/dp/B0BMTJPWK2/

If anyone is looking for an Airwrap, Costco has it $100 off. Member price for a set with lots of different adapters is $480.

My DIL got one for that price at Dyson bc Ulta had it on sale and Dyson store near them matched price (a week or so ago), and gave her extra stuff. She says so far it’s really a great tool/worth the cost.
Sorry @BunsenBurner - didn’t need to reply directly to you.

No worries! It is a great tool.

The Costco set apparently has some accessories that are only available at Costco. Plus, great return policy.

My rule is, if a wanted item is available at Costco, that is where it is purchased!

I only abused their return policy once, and was embarrassed, but the sales associate didn’t flinch. My husband must have purchased gloves that he liked for dog walking in the winter. They were very warm and great for ball throwing. While cleaning out the hall closet earlier this year, I found a grocery bag with 4 unopened pairs. As the dog has passed 2 years before, and my husband a few months prior, I debated whether to donate or return. I decided to try returning as they offer the same gloves every year; if they wouldn’t take them back, they would be donated.

I did not have a receipt, but Costco just scans your credit card to pull up the charge. As I only use my Costco Visa there, that wasn’t a problem. Turns out 2 of the pairs were purchased in the fall of 2019, the other 2 in 2020. :face_with_peeking_eye: I expressed my embarrassment to the sales associate, who replied it was not a problem to return.

And this is why Costco gets my business and membership for life!

I tend to agree, but I know my DIL would say she’s keeping what she has, so no sense bothering her.
My Costco “abuse” story (but they told me to) - I had an espresso machine for something like 2 years. It broke, and I couldn’t find a place that could look at it. I called Costco, and they couldn’t make a recommendation for repair, but said I could bring it back and get a refund! And so I did… Of course I turned around and purchased a more expensive espresso machine from them, so at least a little win/win.
I was also able to use their 4 year warranty for electronics with credit card twice. I love Costco.
Back to Black Friday…

Based on recommendations from CC pals, I bought up a backup battery similar to screenshot (can’t seem to get Amazon links on my ipad browsers), but for my iphone 12mini. I really like it and appreciate it that there are 4 LEDs to indicate power (100%, 75% etc).

I still am happy with it! My Amazon shows it at $17.99.

I’ve actually never had a portable charger. Do you just keep it charged and then use it as a back up when traveling? Or do you use it on the daily to charge your phone?

How long does it take for the back up to be charged? And how long does it take the portable charger to charge your (nearly) dead iPhone??

I have a bigger version. It gets to 100% charge in about an hour (plugged into outlet). The charger is good to change two older phones (iPhone 12 pro) while the phone is in use in under an hour.

I bought this last year to use at times when I thought it was possible my phone would run low while I was out. My initial purpose was for the Rose Bowl game - when my phone hit 20%, I plugged it in and it took maybe 20 minutes or so to get up to 80%. I could use the phone while it was charging. Then I lent it to husband who was in the same situation and he also got back up to 80%. The little charger still had at least 50% charge remaining.

I just leave it stored charged up and take it out when I need it - don’t really remember how long it takes to recharge itself but it wasn’t anything too bad. Its other trips have been to a Sting/Billy Joel concert at Petco, Comic-Con, and the Argosy boat tour of the Ballard locks.

I used to use the cellphone backup battery just when traveling, so much nicer than running around looking for an outlet at the airport. Then I decided to leave it in my car, though I’ve not actually needed it there yet since I just drive around town and my iphone mini holds a decent charge.

Recharge is surprisingly quick, though when travelling I don’t let phone go fully dead. I connect it when it is getting low and I am at a good boring time to address the situation.

I bought it last time it popped up here on CC. After an experience in Spain where both are phones were almost out of battery and I had the train tickets in my online wallet I knew we should have an item like this.
Last week my husband took a tumble into the ocean with his phone. He needed a new phone (he needed one anyway since his was an IPhone XR), I got delivered today from Amazon the same battery power bank for his new phone with the USB-C port.
