What are YOU asking for for Christmas?

Thanks for all the encouragement, but the pole saw appears to be out----kids agree with wife that I shouldn’t buy one.

YET—nobody is taking away my chain saw, my circular saw, my table saw, my scroll saw…

(I may just have to make an executive decision)

Tell your wife that trimming branches with a mini chainsaw on a stick is much safer than doing so while climbing on a ladder with a chainsaw… This was very persuasive for me.

H has a polesaw and it is extremely useful! You should totally get one!

Pole saws look scarier than they are. BUT husband uses it continuously and it is MUCH safer than a chain saw on a ladder! It is one of his favorite tools to be honest. He just uses it while I’m not looking…

The part that concerns me is when husband takes the pole saw up the ladder to get those very high dead palm fronds.

My husband may have 2 pole saws. Bought one that is not powered and then sprung for the powered one.

He may have given away the first one, I have no idea what kind of power tools are in the garage, he doesn’t count my shoes

Guess what? For the health of the palm tree and type it may be better to let those fronds fall down on their own. No need to trim. Win-win. We’ve never trimmed any of our palms.
We have an HOA on one property that insisted we trim palms and with some background info we just said “no”. This is just one article. Many others.

We don’t want them to fall in the pool or in the neighbor’s yard. We use a professional for the very tall palm and do avoid the pin head look.

My husband has two pole saws - one for home and one for our other place. Both get plenty of use. I’d rather he use it than climb up a ladder, chainsaw in hand.
(I also joke about how many circular saws he has.)

I know this isn’t a thread about saws, but it reminded me of a story. My dad was in his maybe early 80s and had purchased a chainsaw. When I saw it, I asked what in the world he was going to use it for. His answer was to trim the tree limbs. This man, with a heart condition, diabetes and Parkinsons, was going to climb a ladder and handle a chain saw, something he has never done before!

When I asked what possessed him to buy a chainsaw, he replied, “It was only $25 at Aldi’s.” :woman_facepalming:t4: He and my mother always like the Aldi’s Aisle of Shame, and came home with many useless items as well as a few good ones.

Needless to say, I told him in no uncertain terms was he to use the chainsaw. If he wanted branches removed, the yard guy, who’s job it was to do that, could take care of it.
